Can someone define Just-in-time manufacturing[edit]
The first line says
Just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing, also known as just-in-time production or the Toyota Production System (TPS), is a methodology aimed primarily at reducing times within the production system as well as response times from suppliers and to customers.
This tells me that it is a methodology and its aim but does not tell me the methodology's contents. The rest of the article also omits an explanation of what it is (though there is a tantalizing hint later in the article)
They built smaller factories ... in which the only materials housed in the factory were those on which work was currently being done.
There are some other hints in linked articles:
"Making only what is needed, only when it is needed, and only in the amount that is needed."
I was tempted to edit the first line to say "Just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing, also known as just-in-time production or the Toyota Production System (TPS), is a production methodology for making only what is needed, only when it is needed, and only in the amount that is needed where the only materials housed in a production environment are those on which work is currently being done. It aims primarily at reducing times within the production system as well as response times from suppliers and to customers."
