Enterprise Continuity[edit]

The nature of the article suggests that for clarity's sake, what you choose to call soapbox formatting works best. It's a necessary evil in order to best present the article. You'll notice that rather than the continued rebuttals present before you nominated it for deletion, (a vote which ended with a pretty safe keep), I've only included one issue and one reply for each section I've edited, keeping additional evidence (if it is warranted) in a seperate paragraph. Now I'm with you in that I'm not entirely sure this article should be here, but it is and so it should be made clearer and cleaner. The best way to do that is via the single issue/reply format that I've been inputting. A paragraph containing the arguments for and against a particular point will create nothing but confusion and will encourage the repitition of data (as the state of the article prior to this series of edits clearly shows). Your numerous reverts make it clear you don't like the format, but others do and as stated above, I believe it works best for this type of article. - Hayter 13:51, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that you don't like it, and in another time I might have agreed with you but here and now I don't. I don't want to see [1] any more than you do, which is why I've done away with numerous rebuttals, sticking to single paragraphs for each. Any sensible user which sees that will simply add their own point to the relevant paragraph. Will there be some idiots who try and turn each section into a debate? Probably but you can't write articles trying to cater for the future stupidity/partisansip of some people - if we did that would make Wikipedia non-existant.

This article is of course widely open to POV editing and original research. Who's to say that those who don't like phase pistols are a majority or minority amongst Trek fans? And if we start asking for sources for each of these points, the article will end up with a collection of links to small-time forums with heavily biased fans as regulars. The Manual of Style cannot be applied to this article with a straight cover as it would an article about the series. Wikipedians have shown they want the article, they've shown they like the yes/no format in this case, but it just needs cleaned up. That's the result I'm going for. There are articles and templates I don't like myself, but which have proved popular with others. It's the nature of a project like this. In this case, whilst I feel this is the correct direction for the article to go at the moment, I'm not opposed to removing the Issue/Reply bullet points and simply having seperate paragraphs (and may well do that in my next edit), but the seperation of points should remain and in essence the tone and functionality of the page would stay the same. - Hayter 14:35, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RuneScape cheats under attack again[edit]

Hi, thank you for helping control the vandals on 'RuneScape cheats' it's great to have editors who care. Jagex is trying to get the article deleted now on the basis that it is 'illegal information', POV, and instructional. OK, here's a list for you:
- Casting weaken on tree stump
- Scar is RuneScape specific
- Random events is very RuneScape specific - other games have yet to implement this workaround (google it)
- Armour trimming - explicitly game specific
- Alt-F4 scam (google it: it comes up with 3 runescape hits on the first page, and NO other games)

In response to your inquiries, it's because it seemed pointless that Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure was in the categories of Indiana Jones, LucasArts games and Indiana Jones games when the last category was itself a subcategory of the first two categories.

CircleSpeak Documentary[edit]

I am a new user who did add a reference link to a crop circle documentary that I produced. You removed the link because it sounded like an advert. I'd like to add the link back and am happy to edit the language, however many of the links to web pages and books are in fact also selling their products on their sites. What I can bring to the site is this: I've been researching the subject since 1992, and most recently spent 4 years of work completing an extensive documentary on the history of the crop circles. Our documentary is, in fact, acclaimed by many of the best known experts for its balanced perspective and intelligent presentation of the full story. Our website does more than sell the DVD, it also explains the phenomenon and has an extensive list of important crop circle researchers and hoaxers, with pictures and links.

Because I'm new to Wikipedia, I'm not sure how to go about this dialogue. However, having done years of work and over 50 in-depth interviews, I feel qualified to make this and other edits to the page. I also believe our film deserves recognition as an excellent and unbiased source of information and insight into the passions of the people who are devoted to the crop circles. I respectfully ask how to go about adding this reference:

Thanks for the reply about the edit that removed my documentary link. I respect your argument about the Wikipedia guidelines for links and think your point is well taken, but please consider these questions.

Why are books linked as references? The types of books that are listed on a crop circle page are not available at any local library and must be purchased. Isn't that a double standard?

Why have two other DVDs been listed on the page and you chose to delete mine? (I understand you said there are more edits to come but that seems like an obvious one if you adhere to your own guidelines.)

There's no point in pursuing this on the crop circle talk page. The whole nature of the phenomenon is that people are so highly polarized in their opinions that one camp or another will fight and argue with every single point. There is no other crop circle documentary in existance that was based off of 140 hours of interviews.

If you are the single arbiter of this issue, than I see no point in pursuing it. I think its a shame you've, essentially, said there is no room for more discussion.

I recognize I might be quite guilty of not understanding the Wikipedia process and community and offer full apologies if I'm out of line here. Thanks for your time.

Mike Giganti[edit]

Hello, i see you've deleted my article on Canadian Guitar folk hero Mike Giganti. I'm sorry mr. Giganti has slipped through your (i'm sure) vast musical knowledge but none the less others do find him interesting, one such person being myself. I see that the band Mr. Giganti plays guitar for Andy Moog and the Sausage party has also been deleted from Wikipedia. Though i do not know if it is you who deleted the latter i would like some explanation as to why a band and a man whom have sold thousands of albums is not worthy of being recognized on Wikipedia. I'm sorry if in America the Sausage party and Mr. Giganti himself have made no headway, but many Canadians do view this band as entertaining and enjoyable to watch/listen to. Perhaps before you delete sometime for having no reason for being on here, you should actually investigate who these people are, which would have been easy to do if you would have just read the articles i wrote.

On Image:Firion GBA menu.gif you wrote as the reason for speedy deletion, "The given reason is: CSD I1: Redundant. Copy of Firion GBA menu.png". However, that image, Firion GBA menu.png, does not exist. I note that for the other ones marked for deletion have a corresponding duplicate - so for this one is there meant to be a corresponding Firion GBA menu.png? I will attempt to provide additional information on the group. Your correct It is a wide term, That is why the entry here is important. I want to assist defining the term. It is used by law enforcement officers here in the us. As a group the emblem used is a black background in the shape of the usa, that represents the officers who have died serving the public, and the blue line represents the officers still serving to this day. they have a msn group at http://groups.msn.com/TheThinBlueLineGROUP/_whatsnew.msnw for reference

Aritcle Size and Search[edit]

Jfish: When I search for my article "Merit badge collecting (BSA)" and click on the "GO" button, it finds it. When I click on the "Search" button it does not find it. Do you know why? HSBC Pages[edit]

I'm actually on a little project to get the above all sorted out. HSBC Bank AS is the Turkish subsidiary of HSBC, so I don't think it would be right to merge them all up together, for one the page would be miles long. Hopefully there will be much more scope for detail about individual countries away from the main page, eg going to write a proper set up for HSBC Bank plc (ie UK bank) and it'd include the Sale from earlier this year - wouldnt really get that in the main page. Also there is plenty of scope for group activities on the main page.

Open to suggestions though
