cock the one interesting fact I know about it (that Gordon Brown went there). I didn't create the page; don't know why I'm the first author in the history.

Not sure if the fact that Brown went there is enough to make it encyclopedic. In a week or two, if the page is still here, I'll see if I can expand it a bit (my parents went there at the same time as Brown — though my parents are, sadly, themselves not encyclopedic) — Mendor 20:28, 2005 May 8 (UTC)

The "Oswald" House is not named after famous landowners, but is named after Sir Oswald Mosley, who once visited the school. This has been confirmed with the school itself as well as local politicians.

Not done: This appears to be the conflict which resulted in the article being semi-protected. You need to reach a consensus with your fellow editors about this before using the editsemiprotected template to request a change. While I concur with Gfoley that technically to fulfill the edit request we need a specific change, there's no question that the quote is intentionally misleading--you can tell from the quote itself (the use of the phrase "At one time") and the article title that it's only half of the story, and was intentionally chosen to reflect a POV that is the exact opposite of the source's intent. Please remove paragraph 3 completely. It is not necessary to quote an out of date newspaper article. Other school pages don't have the school described in an unflattering way like this.I suspect it was politically motivated in the first instance ... Gordon Brown (former PM) is an ex pupil. Susequent edits have left a distorted picture. Also the reference (3) in para 3 to Fife Council in inaccurate. It is actually a Scottish Government Inspection Report which is referred to. It would be fair to leave a reference to this as it is the most recent official published report on the school. It is accessed on the HMIe website (which is cited)

The section on school shows is not very relevant ... I think it was a self publicising piece entered by a former pupil ... it is also quite out of date. It shouldbe deleted in my opinion.

Partly done: I fixed the typo and removed the school production section as I agree that it seemed to be nothing more than a student promoting his or her school play. However, I am not sure that the newspaper quote should be removed as I don't see any indication that it was purely a political move. Edit request on 10 December 2011[edit]

I was looking at the school's main website (http://www.fife.gov.uk/atoz/index.cfm?fuseaction=facility.display&FacId=2E7BE11F-3AC4-48CA-827BB61A6377A027) and a few things there dont match up to as what is in the wiki: The website claims the "Burgh" school was founded in 1582 and the "High school" in 1843. There is also a slight difference in the translation of the school motto and so it would probably be most relevant if the wiki contained their translation of I strive to the utmost.

Not done: For the date of establishment please request a change rather than simply highlighting a conflict. As for the moto: "conabor" is in the future tense so "I shall strive" is actually a better translation and changing "my" to "the" is splitting hairs, particularly given that "usque" translates to something along the lines of "continuously" or "all the way".--Hazel77 talk 19:09, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Following on from this (12 years later), the motto in Latin is correct in both the main article and the infobox, but the English translations are different. The main article says, 'I will strive to my utmost' but the info box says, 'Working together to improve', citing a Scotsman list of Fife schools. I was a pupil there from 1968 to 1974 and as far as I remember, it was 'I will strive to my utmost' (as Hazel77 says). I've found a Courier and Advertiser letter from 2012 that says it's the former, not the latter as stated by that notable Latin scholar of the school, one Gordon Brown (who, IIRC left the year I started). Many sources simply repeat Gordon Brown's translation and the school's website doesn't seem to give any translation. Anyone any further details of this?
