Miami U and African-Americans[edit]

I think you were incorrect in removing the statement about Miami U being an early acceptor of African-Americans; I don't have any material on my side yet to back it up, but I'll probably go and investigate it. I know it sounds very implausible, given the general lack of racial diversity at MU but I believe I am correct. If I find evidence, I'll post here again and correct the entry. The Humungous Image Tagging Project[edit]

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Edit summary[edit]

Dear contributor, first I would like to say a big thank you for your time, care, and enthusiasm in editing Wikipedia articles. I hope you find it just as much fun as I do.

I am writing with a small suggestion. I wonder if you could write an edit summary every time you make changes to an article (or when you start a new one). Even a short summary helps. To see how often you have done so in the past, you may go to http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&target=YOUR USERNAME.

Edit summaries are important for a number of reasons. Every time you change an article, a record of that change propagates to every single person who has that article on their watchlist. Most people have an article on their watchlist because they care a lot about it, so they would like to be informed about what is going on with it. Accurate summaries help people decide whether it is worthwhile for them to check a change. This is why your edit summary, which will take you maybe 15 seconds, is a time-saver and a great act of candor to the other people interested in the same article as you. Accurate edit summaries are important because they create trust regarding your contributions and help resolve disputes.

There are other, very convincing reasons for putting an edit summary. More information is available at Wikipedia:Edit summary. If at any point you have any questions about this rule (or anything else for that matter), please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you and happy editing! Hyacinth 06:13, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)

IVCF[edit]

Hi Alison9, I noticed you added InterVarsity Christian Fellowship to a category that says that the organization is anti-gay rights. I'm more or less familiar with the organization, and I've never heard them officially take that position, so I was wondering where you might have heard that. It's certainly possible; I'm not the president or anything, but I would have expected to have seen something about that when I was doing research for the article. Please let me know. Thanks. --Spangineer 22:30, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)

I did a bit more research on the IVCF website, and based on what I found at [1], [2], and [3], I'm going to continue to argue that IVCF is not anti-gay rights. Since none of these sites (which describe the positions that the organization holds) mention anything about LGBT rights, I think the story in your book (which I have not read, so I'm not sure) is more related to individuals, not the organization itself. It is likely that many of the people in IVCF are opposed to gay rights, but since it is not a position of the organization, I think it's unfair to say that the organization itself opposes LGBT rights. In my opinion, it's like calling Planned Parenthood pro-LGBT rights – chances are that most of the people involved are pro-gay rights, but that's not the point of the organization, and thus, it shouldn't be (and isn't) considered a pro-gay rights organization. I won't remove the category until you respond, but I hope you see my point. Thanks. --Spangineer 05:51, Feb 20, 2005 (UTC)

Looking for help on a major wiki project[edit]

Hey :) I was wondering if you'd be interesting in helping out with www.Knowmore.org, a corporation search/watch wiki we're trying to get off the ground. We could DEFINATELY use some people that know how to make a wiki community great & the site is almost a blank slate at this point. It's been heavily customized and is designed to help responsible consumers enter any product or company name and immediatly find information about that co. (the main focus of the wiki is corporate & political information in a much more specialized way then wikipedia currently offers) Let me know if you're interested! aim: knowmoreorg or bernard@knowmore.org

Stub List Sportsbio cats[edit]

There was already a pointer under Entertainer-stub in the people by Occupation list to the sport-bio section. Changinging your added list to just a second pointer, since that section is getting rather long.

Stub templates[edit]

Please do not use abbreviations (such as postal abbreviations) in stub template names because they're often ambiguous. Also, it's preferable that new stubs are proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals before being created, to avoid problems such as use of abbreviations and to ensure that they'd get enough use. --Mairi 03:55, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Also, stub templates should have text to indicate that the article is stub; which can be done using {{metastub}}. --Mairi 04:31, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Faegre & Benson, by 66.93.209.195, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Faegre & Benson is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Faegre & Benson, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Faegre & Benson itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 02:46, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of List of LGBT couples[edit]

I have nominated List of LGBT couples, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of LGBT couples. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Intertwined stories[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Intertwined stories, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Intertwined stories. Atmosphere of Saturn‎[edit]

Hey, I saw you added a merge tag to the article Atmosphere of Saturn‎ to possibly merge with Saturn. I just wanted to point out that all the planets of our solar system have their own articles besides Neptune (see here). Just for you to look at. I believe the atmosphere of Saturn could be expanded greatly and be a fantastic stand alone article. Bsimmons666 (talk) 01:48, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I do think there is enough material for it's own article, but as it is right now, I don't think it's enough. Perhaps making it a stub instead would make more sense.

A tag has been placed on Laudi Vidni requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ttonyb1 (talk) 22:19, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Worldspan LP requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Malcolma (talk) 11:35, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:26, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Morrison & Foerster, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic.
