This article currently doesn't consider that the empty set and singleton subsets of R are intervals. Yet a number of the claims it makes about intervals are true only if these degenerate cases are counted. I'm not entirely sure what to do about this, because many people wouldn't consider them to be intervals. --Zundark, 2001 Dec 5

Maybe we can just keep quiet about it, and if somebody complains, we point to the fact that we didn't require a < b  :-) --AxelBoldt

Yes, but then we're in trouble with the claim that the length is b - a, and the description of what the square brackets mean. And there's still the problem that there are 11 types of interval while the article claims only 9. Maybe I'll try to do something about this later. --Zundark, 2001 Dec 6
