1419 – Hundred Years' War: The siege of Rouen ended with English troops capturing the city from Norman French forces.
1909 – A deed was recorded for David Hanbury to sell Island No. 2 in northern California to his brother John for $10 ($339.00 in 2023).
1977 – Iva Toguri (pictured), convicted of treason for broadcasting Japanese propaganda, was granted a full pardon by U.S. president Gerald Ford.
1996 – A tank barge and a tug grounded on a beach in Rhode Island, causing a spill of an estimated 828,000 U.S. gallons (3,130,000 L) of home heating oil.
2006 – In the deadliest aviation accident in Slovak history, an Antonov An-24 operated by the Slovak Air Force crashed in northern Hungary, killing 42 of the 43 people on board.

Notability of SCUD attack on Israel[edit]

I question the notability of:

1991 - Gulf War: SCUD attack from Iraq causes 15 injuries in Israel.

This was the second attack on Israel by Iraq. The first attack occurred on January 18 resulting in 7 minor injuries. This attack resulted in 15 minor injuries. In general, these attacks do not seem notable, but at the very least it seems if the beginning of hostilities between nations, no matter what, is notable, then the entry belongs on January 18. -- Mufka ^(u) ^(t) ^(c) 21:02, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An attack by one nation on another using long-range ballistic missiles is a notable event regardless of how many injuries it causes and whether it is the 1st or third or 14th. Is it notable every time it occurs? If it happened every day for 30 days, should we list it on every day? There is also a listing on January 22. Your statement above makes me think that you may have a conflict of interest with the topic and thus your impression of its notability might be skewed. The lack of response from Israel makes these events more notable, not less. If Israel had responded in kind, this would, in terms of the long term and bigger picture, have been in Sadam Hussein's favor. Maybe you have a conflict of interest yourself, which is why you are so eager to suppress these historical facts. And you have not answered my question: If a rocket from another country traveled hundreds of miles and caused injuries and damages in your neighborhood, would you be so eager to suppress the fact and dismiss its importance because injuries were few, and/or that sort of thing had happened before? If a missile from another country landed in my back yard the day after another one landed in my neighbor's backyard and no one was killed or seriously injured, it would not be a globally notable event that warrants placement on this list. If the first missile landing in my neighbor's backyard had a significant impact on an ongoing or new conflict, it would belong here. If it had no impact, it too would not belong here. I am not trying to suppress historical facts. The date articles are not a place to list every event that occurs. Births and Deaths cleanup[edit]

In accordance with the guidelines, I've started weeding the Births and Deaths sections by removing entries for celebrities with 0-4 articles in other languages. Where possible, these have been transferred to the relevant Year in Topic articles. As well as making the lists more manageable, this will help with the globalization effort.Deb (talk) 14:35, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Deb and L293D: If there are existing pending changes queued for an article, all subsequent edits will be captured as pending changes unless the editor chooses to also Accept the pending edits (assuming they have that ability). "Live" edits can't be published to an article while other edits are pending, because the edit history is linear. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 19:17, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
