Untitled[edit]

I moved the Reform party of MN to redirect to this page because it is the same party that went by a different name for about 4-5 years the information on the two pages were almost identical. Perhaps some people think we should do two articles on Jesse Venture one under his real name and one under his stage name, but I do not think that would make sense as it does not make any sense to have to seperate articles about the same party. Plus please take your advice and not move pages with out discussion first.

In January, 2006, Hutchinson was formally endorsed by the IP, becoming the second formal gubernatorial candidate in the 2006 election (after incumbent governor Tim Pawlenty).

Above statement doesn't make sense. Endorsement doesn't happen until the state convention! Even if only one candidate, delegates could still offer No endorsement.

Independence?[edit]

Is the Party in favour of independence, (leaving the USA)? If not, they should have named themselves Independent Party, if it means that they are an "independent" party (not Democrats nor Republicans). 88.91.193.83 18:48, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The name is correct, assumed intention to differentiate between unaffiliated independent candidates. I don't think there's any calls for Minnesota leaving the union, although maybe a good idea if we can take the other great lake states with us! Tom Ruen 20:33, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
State, I know Vermont for one, have laws against political parties' having Independent in their names. 99.168.79.100 (talk) 21:56, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Minnesota has weird history with parties with "Independent" in its name. After Watergate, the Minnesota Republican Party renamed itself the Indepentent Republican Party; after the Ind-Republicans renamed themselves back to the Republicans, a lot of Republicans had already jumped ship and joined Ross Perot's and Jesse Ventura's Reform Party, which by 2000, had changed its name to the Independence Party. Like most political issues in Minnesota, it's complicated. Brash (talk) 18:00, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, the Republicans couldn't even spell "Independent" right (..."After Watergate, the Minnesota Republican Party renamed itself the Indepentent Republican Party; after the Ind-Republicans..."). It's okay, I just couldn't help myself from pointing this out by making a joke. Shanoman (talk) 16:36, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
