I started this article as an outgrowth of the engineering information on the general UIUC page. I'm hoping that we could include building/history/alumni/accomplishments of the engineering fields. --G3pro 17:53, 11 Sep 2004 (UTC)

the Digital Computer Laboratory...[edit]

Re-organization[edit]

I would suggest re-organizing this page in the same manner as Cornell's, which better divides departments (of which only a few are represented here), facilities, and degrees. -Hollis1138 17:22, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The departments neede to be revised in general. TAM is no longer a department. There have been a few name changes and mergers recently.--H.al-shawaf 22:24, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ui eng2.GIF[edit]

Image:Ui eng2.GIF is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Quality scale rating[edit]

I added the wikiprojects university box and gave this page a start rating. If in-text citations are used, it's easily a B quality page. I also think this should be bumped to mid-importance, but I don't want to make that call. The Engineering College is a jewel of the State of Illinois and is well respected nationally.H.al-shawaf (talk) 14:59, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rename to Illinois College of Engineering (instead of UIUC)[edit]

I propose this change based on Illinois identity standards that calls for the use of 'UIUC' changed to 'Illinois':

Campus officials say the change is a critical step in the universitywide branding initiative begun in 2005, and the illinois.edu domain name will help standardize the university’s identity as “Illinois” among all its constituencies. “We are Illinois’ flagship institution, and our name should reflect that,” Chancellor Richard Herman said. “As we work to build our reputation as second to none among public research universities, it is critical that we identify with one name that resonates with key audiences. ‘Illinois’ is recognized as a leader in technology, social sciences, business, agriculture and much more. Having our Web presence reflect that name is increasingly important.”

In text, the first reference to the campus should be: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Acceptable second references to the campus include Illinois, U of I (for in-state and alumni audiences), and Urbana or the Urbana campus (to distinguish this campus from the Springfield and Chicago campuses). On subsequent references, make sure that the use is consistent. Please avoid using UIUC to refer to the campus in body copy, especially in formal documents.
