Notoriety[edit]

We read "He gained early notoriety as an outspoken Internet programmer and travel photographer." I'm puzzled: fame, maybe, but why the notoriety? Hoary 04:01, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Well, I'm not going to defend the original statement, but I guess the notoriety arose from him leaving ArsDigita and then suing the VCs and settling for quite a substantial sum of money (in excess of $5m if IIRC). Since then he and collaborator Eve Anderson have written numerous articles on how the VCs were clueless and drove AD into the ground (or at least to be acquired by Red Hat who were backed by the same VCs) Richard W.M. AFD?[edit]

It’s been years since I edited here and have forgotten how things work. Has this article been through the AFD process before? If so, I’d like to read it because I’d like to understand why this article even exists. --Artificial Nagger (talk) 03:10, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Philip Greenspun seems to meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability, and someone evidently thought it would be a good use of their time to create a Wikipedia article about him (granted, looking through the article's history, that "someone" may quite possibly be Philip Greenspun or a friend or relative.) --Ismail (talk) 00:35, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
