Why see-trough bikini?[edit]

I don’t see why anyone would wear a see-trough bikini. The idea of swimwear is to cover the genitals and if you want the breasts. If a bikini does not fill this function why wear it at all?

I guess, it's for the same reason anyone would wear any see through clothes at all - exhibitionism. Aditya(talkcontribs) 01:01, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd guess that's because in many jurisdictions the law says that certain parts of a woman's body must be covered, but doesn't say that they be concealed. A see through bikini lets a woman show off everything without violating the law. JDZeff (talk) 19:02, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Image diversity[edit]

All of the images on this page are of young, skinny, white women. These are not the only people who wear bikinis or their variants. --Anon 5/14/2011 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.21.199.66 (talk) 18:11, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Right! I'm off now to look for free photos of overweight men of color wearing bikinis. Stay tuned. Beyond My Ken (talk) 20:23, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

I have replaced the mix of horizontal/vertical images with horizontal images, and checked the article on three different sized screens. Now there's little chance of one image shoving another downwards. Is there a reason to revert that? Aditya(talkcontribs) 04:19, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there's some reason to revert. Some of the horizontal images you're using are simply ineffective on a normal laptop screen. The tankini pic in particular is awful, and a defining element of the string bikini - the string on the bikini bottom - can't be seen in the picture you've chosen. I see what you're trying to do in making the layout easier to render and read, but some of these images don't work. Townlake (talk) 17:57, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The tankini image isn't good as a stand alone image, agreed. A better image is on the Tankini page, but it really draws all the attention to one image. I thought the string bikini image shows the strings on both the top and bottom much better than the previous image. Are they really ineffective on a normal laptop screen? I tried them on a Toshiba, a HP and an iBook. Looked okay to me. Aditya(talkcontribs) 09:08, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the "all the attention to one image" thing carries any weight; some pictures will be bigger than others, and that's not necessarily bad. Nobody's complaining about the big pic at the top of this article, right? The string bikini image is worse than the previous version because, like I said before, the pink-bikini picture hides the string on the bottom; the black stuff mid-pic just looks like a pile of string that might not even be connected to the bikini. My "ineffective" complaint comes from the fact that some of these pictures are simply too small to adequately illustrate the bikinis in them, regardless of which kind of laptop you're using. You disagree because you know what the pictures represent, but the very point of Wikipedia is that some visitors will come here unfamiliar with the subject matter. Appropriateness of Images[edit]

This encyclopaedia is viewed by people of all ages and I think that a few of the images are fairly inappropriate. Wouldn't it be sufficient to have a cartoon image showing the design without the exposed genitalia?

Wrong images[edit]

Image of "string bikini" shows normal bikini bottom, not a string bikini.
Image of "monokini" shows topless woman. If she wears only bottom it doesn't mean it calls monokini.
Can someone replace those images please.

sling swimsuit vs. bikini[edit]

How are sling swimsuits either more revealing or as revealing as bikinis? This doesn't make sense. In this article, it appears that sling swimsuits are less revealing:
