Intro. and Bio.[edit]

Hi!

My name is Dave Williams (David Harry Williams) and I am a professor of biology at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida, USA. I have been at Valencia for about 11 years (as of 2008). Before that I taught and administered at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD, USA. I was born in the City of Annapolis, County of Anne Arundel, State of Maryland, in the good old USA in 1943.

An old photo of my home town, not so different than it was when I was a boy.

Before working at Anne Arundel Community College I was a graduate assistant in the Zoology Department at the University of Maryland at College Park. Before that I was an undergraduate student at the same college, having transferred after two years (approximately) at Anne Arundel Community College. To help sustain myself financially during my undergraduate years I was a stock clerk in a paint store in Annapolis and occasionally delivered wholesale paint purchases for them. Before that I drove a heating oil delivery truck.

Before college I worked for an air conditioning and heating installation company as an installation mechanic's helper ($1.25/hour in 1964/65). It was the same one I later drove the oil delivery truck for, R.S. Leitch & Company in Edgewater, MD. The company is still there, you can Google it. I don't imagine any of the people I worked with are still there. I can still remember some of the names, Ray George, Tussy Russel (I never knew his actual name), Rusty Leitch (Russel Jr.), Buddy Garland, and an office goddess named Madalyn. I desperately wish I had managed to learn more while working there. At the time home ownership and adult responsibilities were the last things on my mind.

I got that job after separating from the U.S. Army in 1964. I entered the army in 1961 as an underage (17) volunteer right out of high school (St. Mary's in Annapolis). My mother was required to sign for me at that age and she did so reluctantly but obediently. I was a relatively precocious and authoritarian teenager. During my tour I served for about 11 months in Thailand and spent the remainder of my hitch at Fort Dix in New Jersey, USA. I learned quite a bit in the army.

I am now verging on retirement and live quietly with my beloved wife, Holly, in Central Florida, USA. Other than that, my teaching, a cat, a wonderful daughter from a previous marriage, my love of science, philosophy, and history, I don't have much to add at this time.

Thanks for reading!
