Signing of the Treaty of Zamora

1143 – The Treaty of Zamora (pictured) established Portugal as a kingdom independent of the Kingdom of León.
1869 – During construction of the Eastman tunnel in St. Anthony, Minnesota (now Minneapolis), the Mississippi River broke through the tunnel's limestone ceiling, nearly destroying Saint Anthony Falls.
1970 – The environmental organization Greenpeace was incorporated as the Don't Make a Wave Committee in British Columbia, Canada.
1999 – Two trains collided head-on in Ladbroke Grove, London, killing 31 people, injuring 417, and severely damaging public confidence in the management and regulation of safety of Britain's privatised railway system.
2011 – Two Chinese cargo ships were attacked and their crews murdered on a stretch of the Mekong River in far northern Thailand.

Who is 'Paige "Pirate" Davis, skater, sexy'? No article on Wikipedia (not even a stub) and nothing on Google. Laura Kahili does show up on Google, but is arguably not significant enough for Wikipedia. Pseudomonas 14:08, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Most Common Birthday in the US[edit]

According to the Birthday article, October 5 is the most common birthday in the United States. Might this be worth mentioning in the October 5 article? If so, where? Brent 15:41, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest putting death date immediately after name[edit]

In Wikipedia 'On this day' pages, in the birthdays section, the death date is always put at the end of the entry line, but at times this can cause confusion. In cases such as "1717 Marie-Anne de Mailly-Nesle duchess de ChâteaurouxFrench mistress of King Louis XV of France (d. 1744)" it looks like Louis died in 1744, not Marie-Anne. To obviate this ambiguity, I suggest that in all entries the death year appear immediately after the person's name, eg "1717 Marie-Anne de Mailly-Nesle duchess de Châteauroux (d. 1744), French mistress of King Louis XV of France". Dali Lama[edit]

Halloween?[edit]

I have no idea why that was in there, and don't think Oct. 5th has anything to do with its history. And if it does, then an unexplained, unsourced "Halloween" certainly isn't going to cut it. So...removed. Cosmic Latte (talk) 15:01, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mercedes Sosa[edit]
