Current Ownership[edit]

There's no mention of current ownership of the company? I understand that the Saudi's have taken an interest.

Untitled[edit]

It would be good to mention the whining of other tranport companies, train companies I believe, about government subsidy of air traffic, BAA in particular. Also there is a story to be told about the "two tills" system - i.e. restrictions between what cross-subsiding is allowed of money from shops and money from landing fees. As you can see, I am not totally sure what the detail is on these issues, but I am aware that there are issues!

Value Added Tax[edit]

Could someone clarify the VAT position of the shops in BAA airports (or any UK Airport for that matter). I don't believe that they are VAT exempt. Based on a conversation I had in Dixons in Heathrow Airport a couple of years ago - All items have VAT, they are only exempt if the traveller is going outside of the EU. They just reduce the price in the airport shops so it is the same price as it would be there was no VAT. If a company wishes to buy something from an Airport shop they would get a full VAT invoice showing the VAT paid if the customer [business traveller] is travelling with in the EU. --Colin Angus Mackay 18:18, 17 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Does anyone know anything about other retail centres owned and operated by BAA. I was in McArthur Glen Centre in Livingston, Scotland today and saw a large sign detailing that the centre was owned and operated by BAA. Southampton Airport[edit]

The article currently mentions how the other six airports came to be controlled by BAA, but not how Southampton Airport got added. —Sladen (talk) 19:46, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the article has clearly declined since you read it, as currently it doesn't mention how ANY of them came to be controlled by BAA, or why it got rid of the ones it no longer controls! I'm especially interested why they run Southampton which is a relatively tiny regional airport, barely even in the top 20 in the UK for passenger traffic or aircraft movements. I can only guess (and it is a wild guess) that it has some strategic importance which has little to do with the amount of civilian passenger traffic it handles. 81.98.0.116 (talk) 10:23, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Years[edit]

The British Airports Authority was established by the passing of Airport Authority Act 1965, .... The Authority took on the Ministry of Civil Aviation Constabulary in 1946, which was renamed to become the British Airports Authority Constabulary, and was disbanded between 1974 and 1975.

Name[edit]

Technically BAA Limited has become Heathrow Airport Holdings Limited, Heathrow (SP) Limited is a holding company much further down the company structure. And all airports say LHR Airports Limited so id propose a name change to LHR Airports Limited. I asked the Heathrow Airport Media Centre and they provided me with this link, http://www.baa.com/investor-centre/debt-information/debt-summary/debt-in-the-group%27s-structure, so I will rename the article as Heathrow Airport Holdings accordingly.
