Famine and the Great Leap Forward[edit]

Hi, I'm writing about your edits at famine that I originally reverted, regarding the Great Leap Forward. I must confess, I don't know much about this subject, and I've left it for you (or others) to continue with. Most of my knowledge about the Great Leap Forward has come from the Wikipedia article anyway, but this does seem to contradict somewhat the statements that you wrote in famine about climate being unrelated. e.g.

In 1960, at least some degree of drought and other bad weather affected 55 percent of cultivated land, while an estimated 60 percent of agricultural land received no rain at all.

Even critics of Mao were more forgiving:

Liu Shaoqi said: "The disaster was 30% fault of nature, 70% human error".

although this last quote is unreferenced in the article. So, as I said, I don't really know much about this at all, but if you really feel you are correct, then I think the Great Leap Forward aricle should be also modified. Thanks! -postglock 17:16, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
