Article name[edit]

Shouldn't this page be merged into Province of West Prussia, with that page then renamed to "West Prussia"? It seems that there was a previous plan to name all provinces of the Kingdom of Prussia by "Province of ...", yet that project fizzled out. That has caused this situation with "West Prussia" and "Province of West Prussia". The province pre-WWI is by far the more commonly sought-for usage of "West Prussia". There really does not seem to be enough information at West Prussia to warrant its own article, let alone relegating the more important usage to "Province of West Prussia". The fact that the subdivisions of West Prussia table shows only Polish population figures for each district, and is unreferenced, looks extremely dodgy. Is anyone in a position to tidy it up and provide comprehensive, referenced info?--Stonemad GB 11:13, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article name again[edit]

Further investigation indicates to me that this article should be renamed again. According to de:Westpreußen, the Province of West Prussia was divided in 1815 into the Regierungsbezirke Danzig and Marienwerder, the latter of which contained Kreis Marienwerder and Kwidzyn. While most of West Prussia became part of Poland, Kreis Marienwerder was included in the Province of East Prussia; Regierungsbezirk Marienwerder was renamed Regierungsbezirk Westpreußen (1922). On January 1 1939 Kreis Marienwerder was renamed Landkreis Marienwerder. On October 26 after the invasion of Poland, it became part of what would later be known as Danzig-West Prussia, and was renamed from Regierungsbezirk Westpreußen to Regierungsbezirk Marienwerder.

The style guide recommends that Regierungsbezirk be translated as "government region", instead of district (Kreis). Most Regierungsbezirke at Category:Regierungsbezirk and Category:Former Regierungsbezirk are disambiguated when necessary with the addition of "(region)", although a few have "(administrative region)". West Prussia (region) or West Prussia (administrative region) would be better than the current title. Because the Regierungsbezirk started and ended as "Regierungsbezirk Marienwerder", however, Marienwerder (region) would be the best title, IMO. Olessi 16:49, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
