Petty Officer First Class Marcus Luttrell[edit]

Phil McGraw[edit]

Phil McGraw keeps being re-added to this list. He was born in Oklahoma, spent a portion of his childhood in Texas, then returned to Oklahoma to go to high school and college. I'm not sure what the definition of "significant portion of their life" is, but since the majority of his life has been spent outside of Texas and he was not born there, I don't think he should be listed as being from Texas. 12.40.5.69 (talk) 18:05, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the Texan President[edit]

Why is it that the President had a qualifier following his name, but President George H. W. Bush does not? President Bush has spent a smaller percentage of his life in Texas than his son. Is it so important that the President was not born in Texas? -Acjelen 13:31, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Acjelen, while working on various state pages I've noticed that other states will claim a person, even though they were not born there, if they have spent a significant amount of time in that state. I think most of the people listed on this page, with the exception of the Founders and such, were born in Texas. I think it's okay if someone who is not a native Texan, but claims Texas as their home can be listed. Don't you think? maltmomma 15:56, Jun 1, 2005 (UTC)

You misunderstand me, Maltmomma. When I first discovered this list, of all the people listed who weren't born in Texas, only the President had his place of birth given. His father, General Houston, the Austins all listed without place of birth. Since I couldn't see why it is so important that the President, in particular, was not born in Texas, I erased that information. Now all are equally Texans. Unmaintainable list[edit]

Too many missing for this to be considered objective[edit]

I cursory review of the lists reveals that many well known Texans are omitted...for example US District Court Judge and former prominent Texas legislator Rob Junell who was well known as a democrat who supported the second President Bush, Richard Lineback, a motion picutre and television actor raised in Austin, who has had roles in shows from the original Dallas to MASH to Star Trek The Next Generation and Star Trek Enterprise, and movies including the original Speed. Additionally, several local politicians are listed, but many of note are omitted.
