Nonleague clubs[edit]

I think non-league clubs are (or have been in the past) allowed to enter this competition, since there are so few league clubs in Ireland. Joestynes 03:48, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

  • I believe that you thinking of the FAI Cup, in the FAI Cup all teams that have membership in the FAI have the chance to play in that tourney, where as the League is just restricted to the teams in the League of Ireland, similar to the structure of the FA Cup and the League Cup in England. Also i am going to change the name of the article to Football League of Ireland Cup to better reflect the name of the competition.--Boothy443 | comhrÚ 02:17, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Non league clubs have definitely played in the tournament, when groups stages were the norm, they were used to bulk numbers up from 22 to the more group friendly 24 --Dodge 02:42, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shield[edit]

The redirect from League_of_Ireland_Shield should not be there as it was a separate competition. Although it may have been the forerunner of this, it was definitely separate. See different articles on UEFA Cup and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. When I get around to writing the Shield article, I'll redirect it--Dodge 02:42, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
