Dates[edit]

The dates are a bit dubious. I'm sure XvT and XWA are correct, but the first two could be wrong. One source gives 1992 for X-Wing, but I have a magazine dated 1993 with a preview of it. TIE Fighter is from memory and from the same source - it could have been 1995, but I think 1994 is correct. --AW

Yep, I checked this and it according to a newsgroup post, X-Wing was at least not available December 23, 1992. They had to delay the release and miss the expected christmas release. Another post said it was released in early 1993. I just added expansion dates too and hopefully they're correct. :-) -- Jugalator

Next-gen[edit]

Would it be correct to say that this video game series has been taken over by Rogue Squadron?

I suppose that would be a correct supposition - but it might be a bit too speculative to be a wiki entry. I think this page is severly lacking though - especially in comparison with the Rogue Squadron wikipage - specifically we should divide the page up to correspond to each game with infoboxes of their own. I may take up my own challenge or someone might try and beat me to it. -- Falmarin

No, the original Rogue Squadron game predated X-Wing Alliance from what I remember. In fact, wasn't the very first Rogue Squadron game a Saturn or CDTV title from around 1995? X-Wing and Rogue Squadron are pretty different games, not least because of platform (the X-Wing series is PC-specific, whilst the RS games have appeared on Saturn, PC, Nintendo 64, GameCube and other platforms) but also because the X-Wing series is much more based around 'simulation' rather than RS, which is more arcade-action. Also, the X-Wing series isn't necessarily over according to Holland (although the apparently poor sales of X-Wing Alliance prevented a sequel appearing in the next couple of years, apparently interest is beginning to increase again).--Werthead 14:32, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Marak Stele? Where does this name come from? I've always known this as Maarek Stele... I managed only to find 'Marak' in German translation of the '...Chronicles', probably a translator's typo. NLoriel 28 June 2005 09:00 (UTC)

I removed "Marak Stele" as it only matched this article and a mirror of it on Google, while Maarek Steele had far more matches in Star Wars universe articles, even elsewhere on Wikipedia. -- Jugalator 21:13, August 12, 2005 (UTC)
I found my copy of "The Stele Chronicles", the novella that came with the original release of TIE Fighter and told the backstory and established the Stele character, his name is spelled "Maarek Stele" in there. --Wingsandsword 06:45, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I changed it to 'Maarek Stele', as supported by both the official Strategy Guide and SW Databank page. It turned out that Maarek's main Wiki entry also contained the typo. NLoriel 16:22, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization[edit]

Okay, bugger all -- I'm the one who just moved the page to "correct" the capitalization awkwardness. Upon closer inspection, though, it's inconsistent on the actual Star Wars: X-Wing page, and it isn't consistent with the other references to X-wings (to say nothing of how I'm used to seeing it in print). Before changing it back, can someone look back to an old manual or cover or somesuch and ascertain whether W or w is the right way to go? Call me pedantic... EEMeltonIV 02:36, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's "X-Wing" when refering to titles or trademarks (eg. computer game name, book titles etc.), and "X-wing" when referring to the craft itself. As in: The X-Wing game allows player to fly X-wings. NLoriel 10:38, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Works for me; thanks EEMeltonIV 11:08, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alliance Error?[edit]

The DSII attack mission in Alliance is a bit on the odd side, but I think the inference from the game is that Ace is actually on the Falcon (probably one of those guys sitting behind Lando and the Sullustan) as a co-pilot or crewman. I don't think it's really the case that you 'become' Lando in the final mission, although it is also inarguable that it's Lando actually flying the Falcon at the end of the film. Odd--Werthead 14:32, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Continuity?[edit]

Why do some people not count the games as part of the continuity in a purely technical sense.

Fair use rationale for Image:Swtiefightercd.jpg[edit]

Image:Swtiefightercd.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Game engine[edit]

Were the game engines totally rewritten for each new game, or was the same (evolving) game engine used throughout? SharkD (talk) 23:43, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Team[edit]

Just fixed a minor detail, Ed Kilham is Technical Director at EA, so didn't leave the game industry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.229.115.95 (talk) 05:13, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
