Minor correction - Silica[edit]

I removed the first sentence of the "Silica" section. The tunnel was not mined for silica - it was purely for hydropower, and silica was not "discovered" - it was common knowledge that the local sandstone is largely composed of silica (quartz) and silica is not used in steelmaking (in fact, it is a waste product in the slag). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.180.11.47 (talk) 17:21, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi the removal of this information may have been erroneous. Please see the attached resource for details on the mining of silica. https://www.assp.org/docs/default-source/psj-articles/vpspencer_0223.pdf?sfvrsn=afa39647_0#:~:text=The%20Hawks%20Nest%20Tunnel%20was,%E2%80%94while%20mining%20sand%2D%20stone. 148.75.245.45 (talk) 17:17, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
