Contrary to the impression left by this article, the concept of "sugar addiction" is not a part of mainstream medicine. For example, it's absent from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition. I've offered a couple of sources that reflect the "fringe" nature of the concept, but really the article should be entirely recast.

As it stands, it's quite a disservice to anyone seeking information about eating disorders and merely plays into a popular tendency to overuse the term "addiction."
