Ken Follet[edit]

I removed a reference to Ken Follet's 'Pillars of the Earth' from this article. The reference claimed that the story was set in the town, but according to Follet's own FAQ ( http://www.ken-follett.com/faq/ ) 'Kingsbridge and its people are fictional...Kingsbridge is located roughly where the present-day town of Marlborough in Wiltshire is.'.

I wouöd put thos explanation back in the discription so evereybody knows that this is the case. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.195.61.220 (talk) 18:40, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No Bridge[edit]

There is no bridge in Kingsbridge. Can anyone elaborate?

According to [this page], "Kingsbridge first appears as ‘Cinges bricge’ in a 962 Anglo-Saxon charter of King Edgar. The bridge appears to have connected the two Royal estates of West Alvington and Chillington. There was no settlement here worthy of mention in the Domesday Book of 1086". Presumably the bridge crossed the strem (usually referred to as 'the creek') which passes through the town, but which has since been mostly covered over (although you can still see parts of it exposed at the northern end of the town).
I have no other source for this, although if I get a chance I'll check it out at the local library sometime. If I can verify it, I'll add it to the main page.

Baron Donaldson of Kingsbridge?[edit]

Is this Kingsbridge the seat of Baron Donaldson, the son of the 1970s MP? Or is that somewhere else? (And does anyone know who the current Baron is?) Sam

No, according to this page, "[he] was created Baron Donaldson of Kingsbridge, of Kingsbridge in the County of Buckinghamshire". It seems to be just to the south of Buckingham, somewhere between Stewkley and Dunton. I checked on streetmap but all I could find was Kingsbridge Farm. The-stickman 09:09, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
