Australian anthem?[edit]

This song seems to be referenced as a "patriotic" song at Advance_Australia_Fair, but still the verbatime lyrics should not be reproduced here. (and yes I know how many edit conflicts you've had on this, because it's one less than me!) Fuzheado 06:11, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Allen's patriotism?[edit]

Correction to my edit summary: I meant that I tried not to say what I really think of this appalling song. Fair dinkum, I (and many others here) cringe every time we hear it. Most Australians regard American-style patriotism as crass bad taste, and this song is just about as bad an exampe of it as you will ever see. In any case, Peter Allen had lived in the US for so long that you wouldn't have had the faintest idea that he was born here: he had a strong New York accent. Tannin

Just because someone is not physically located in a particular place, does not mean that they don't have an emotional and sentimental connection to it. Peter Allen may have lived in the US for many years but that doesn't mean that he didn't feel Australia has his home.

Vandalism[edit]

Qantas Lyrics[edit]

I added the lyrics in for the version of the song that Qantas uses in their commercials. I believe the Qantas version is the more well-known one, with "Rome" being used instead of "Rio" but it explains it below anyhoo. AnimatedZebra (talk) 12:35, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
