Australian anthem?[edit]

Is this the australian national anthem? If so, it belongs there. Thank you. Christopher Mahan 06:06, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

The national anthem of Australia is Advance Australia Fair. So says wikipedia. Maximus Rex 06:08, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

The song sounds good and like an Australian National Anthem. Unfortunetly, it's not. Besides, I live here. the preceding unsigned comment is by Hubert Wa (talk • contribs) 19:28, 9 December 2005 (UTC+11 hours )

Uh, no. How about Advance Australia Fair ;) Dysprosia 06:08, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Oh, yes, I did hear that during the olympics :) Christopher Mahan

Hmm... In any event, the song what was on this page seems to have been a song by a professional musician a few days back. And do you know how many people I've edit conflicted with on this 2 sentence comment? Pakaran. 06:10, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)
This song seems to be referenced as a "patriotic" song at Advance_Australia_Fair, but still the verbatime lyrics should not be reproduced here. (and yes I know how many edit conflicts you've had on this, because it's one less than me!) Fuzheado 06:11, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Allen's patriotism?[edit]

Correction to my edit summary: I meant that I tried not to say what I really think of this appalling song. Fair dinkum, I (and many others here) cringe every time we hear it. Most Australians regard American-style patriotism as crass bad taste, and this song is just about as bad an exampe of it as you will ever see. In any case, Peter Allen had lived in the US for so long that you wouldn't have had the faintest idea that he was born here: he had a strong New York accent. Tannin

Rather like that obnoxious Lee Greenwood piece of tripe for the States, I'd imagine. Tuf-Kat
Interestingly, there is an article on tripe (a stub, anyway), but there is none for Greenwood. Tuf-Kat
I've never heard it, TK. But I rather imagine that it's of the same ilk and I don't want to hear it. Tannin

"Mawkish: - thankyou. That was the word I wanted in the first place. (Seeing as the word I would use in real life is unsuitabe for a family encyclopedia.) Tannin

Unless someone objects, I'll replace the following:

Furthermore, the patriotism of Allen has been questioned (Allen has been noted to speak with a strong American accent) and thus the song has been thought of by some as Hollywood-influenced schmaltz.

It's fairly POV and I've never heard of Allen's patriotism being questioned. The expatriate sentiment of the song is quite consistent with Allen living overseas most of his career. 144.138.195.88 13:01, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Not sure about copyright or things like that but if all fine, add it :) the preceding unsigned comment is by 218.215.131.82 (talk • contribs) 02:22, 6 April 2005 (UTC+11 hours )

According to Qantas and another site, it's not Rio, it's Rome. the preceding unsigned comment is by Hubert Wa (talk • contribs) 19:25, 9 December 2005 (UTC+11 hours )

Just because someone is not physically located in a particular place, does not mean that they don't have an emotional and sentimental connection to it. Peter Allen may have lived in the US for many years but that doesn't mean that he didn't feel Australia has his home.

Copyright[edit]

I don't believe the song's lyrics can be included as they would still be covered by copyright--A Y Arktos 08:52, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Added the lyrics to lyriki.com a couple of months back and put the link to lyriki on here. — Donama 05:33, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

I have moved 84 of the 88 edits to this article that were pure vandalism to I Still Call Australia Home/vand today so that they could be deleted from the system. This is why the page history looks a bit odd. -- Francs2000 17:32, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh...that makes sense. Thanks. Masterpjz9 17:47, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Date of composition?[edit]

When was the song written/first performed? Garth M 05:46, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Qantas Lyrics[edit]

I added the lyrics in for the version of the song that Qantas uses in their commercials. I believe the Qantas version is the more well-known one, with "Rome" being used instead of "Rio" but it explains it below anyhoo. AnimatedZebra (talk) 12:35, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
