Redundancy with Rock band? - User:Olivier

Is the title OK ? Is this Rock & Roll or simply Rock ? Is this performers or singer/artists/bands ? Ericd 11:43, 28 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Um, how is this article defining "Rock and roll"? Because a lot of the people on the list, especially the more modern ones, don't make any sense. Will Smith? Céline Dion? Moby? These aren't rock by any stretch of the imagination. -Branddobbe 08:28, Mar 11, 2004 (UTC)

I agree. List of popular music performers is the right place for those. I'll get on weeding out this list as well as I can and leave the ones I'm unfamiliar with. -- Djinn112 00:45, Mar 13, 2004 (UTC)

I translated Sexy Sadie from the Spanish Wikipedia. It's currently an orphan and I'm trying to figure out where I should list them. They're a pop rock band from Majorca. Anybody got an opinion where they should go? Isomorphic 16:21, 23 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Faith Hill = country Kelly Clarkson = pop/american-teen idol/disney channel/radio pop (neither of these are rock by any stretch of the imagination...) also, i know i'm out of my area of expertise here, but as far as Latino Rock, Santana (especially the early albums with Michael Shrieve on drums & 'the guys who later went on to Journey' ;} ) definitely qualify (specifically as psychedelic/jamrock with Latino/Mexican/Afro-Cuban jazz influences), but what i've heard/seen of Gloria Estefan & MSM (salsa?), Paulina Rubio & Shakira (who's only 1/2 Latina, btw) are also definitely not rock, more like dance/disco/pop, Shakira with a "hip-hop" influence, now (which is definitely not even "music")... What a strange page. If this list were at all comprehensive, it would have thousands of names. How can you have Ronnie Van Zant and not (for example) Stevie Ray Vaughn. George Harrison? Eric Clapton? Neil Young? I wonder what the point is. bobanahalf (talk) 12:25, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No references[edit]

I had not seen this article before. It's been here for over 15 years and not one reference?! That stops now. Any added without a source will be reverted -- per pages such as WP:LISTPEOPLE. Musdan77 (talk) 19:59, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I will start getting on top of references for each performer after I tidy up the list itself. Pojo54 (talk) 16:20, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Performer Criteria[edit]

The criteria for the performers included on this list need to be more clearly defined. Rock itself is more of a central genre that branches out into many sub-genres or fuses well with other central genres like country, jazz, blues, etc. I think a good guide to keeping this list true and orderly is by simply following the sub-genres and fusions that are included on the rock music page itself. This is where I'd like some feedback as there may be debate towards genres like metal, punk, or new wave, which are indeed rock but have more or less evolved into categories of their own. Personally, I think this rock list should be that massive blanketing index that encompasses all sub-genres within it, including those mentioned before. I would even make the argument that funk groups like Funkadelic, Earth, Wind & Fire, or Sly & the Family Stone have a place as funk can be seen a the bridge between rock and R&B. However, I wouldn't object if the popular opinion opposed this view. Pojo54 (talk) 16:45, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Back to a cleaner version[edit]

Rockncanadafalls (aka banned user MariaJaydHicky) completly changed this list back in September 2015 by adding numerous rock artists to the list. The list was then incorrectly renamed "List of rock music performers" by Musdan77 in 2019. As the list is now a mess without any clear criteria, I'm therefore restoring a 2015 version of this list, when it was still known under the title "List of rock and roll performers", with rock and roll musicians. I'm also adding reliable sources explicitly calling all of them "rock and roll", and not just "rock". Synthwave.94 (talk) 23:44, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Uh, not "incorrectly renamed" at the time, as my reason was correct: "more accurate". And obviously, I gave up on keeping this article clean a long time ago. Musdan77 (talk) 02:57, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
