Nonsense[edit]

  • "Critics of consumer debt decry the practice as an example of an emphasis on instant gratification over long-term fiscal prudence." Says who? Critic who? Let's just get rid of the credit market, it's "bad". You know, there is a limit of what kind of stupid things can be written, that limit was crossed here. - Jerryseinfeld 16:49, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Personally, I think the deleted viewpoint is quite sane; I'm sorry you can't respect views that don't agree with yours. Cazort 00:24, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Consumer debt detrimental?[edit]

The article says that "consumer debt is considered detrimental." Could we get some useful citation here before a judgement is made? That sentence is clearly NPOV and should be removed unless we can find a reputable economist or financial advisor to quote here. I'm going to try to remove the slanted view presented here. sebmol 20:44, 28 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How about Dave Ramsey, Howard Dayton, the Bible....? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 167.80.246.204 (talk) 17:00, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mortgage debt[edit]

This article implies that Mortgage debt - which is secured, may not be part of consumer debt. This contradicts the article on Consumer Credit Risk, I would like this common question to be addressed but am unable to adequately answer it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.92.49.122 (talk) 20:46, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

False Sentence[edit]

On the other hand, credit card debt is almost unknown just across the sea in Japan and China, one because of long-standing cultural taboos against personal debt, the other because the economy is still underdeveloped.

Japan is a developed country. --Natkeeran (talk) 16:16, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Statistics needed[edit]

I keep hearing stories on the news about how student debt in the U.S. has surpassed credit card debt in the aggregate, and is now behind only mortgage debt. This article could use stats on different types in various countries and time periods. -- Beland (talk) 21:37, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
