The television show, "The Magic Door", was locally produced in Chicago. The show's characters were "Tiny Tov" (a live character "reduced" to appear as a kind of elf), and two hand puppets named "Scrunch" and "Judy". The Magic Door, which first aired in the mid-sixties, was shown at around 7am Sunday mornings (I remember this because my siblings and I would watch the show prior to going to mass).
The show entailed Tiny Tov traveling back through time (riding his Magic Feather spaceship)and showing a story from the Old Testament (which was told using hand puppets).
Although it would be considered crude and archaic by today's standards, the series was very instructive and entertaining (and, being Roman Catholic, provided a little insight into Judaism).
Finally, here is the song Tiny Tov would sing before each show:
A room zoom zoom, a room zoom zoom.!
Gilly gilly gilly gilly gilly ah sa sa!
Come through the Magic door with me,
Just say these words and wondrous things you'll see.
You can fly like a bird, if you say the magic word,
if you want to see more, come through the magic door!

- Actually, I don't of any traditional hymn with that tune. However, I had a friend make a wav file of the beginning of the theme song. Neither of us remember the last two lines, but the first four are how I remember it.

Produced The Magic Door Television Theatre, Chicago television's oldest children's program.
Awards that should be possible to verify: In each of the first two full years of its new look, it took the EMMY for best children's program in a series. In 1994, it won the GABRIEL from the National Association of Catholic Broadcasters and in 1995, the Service to Children's TV award from the National Association of Broadcasters. The program "Knock, Knock" won the 1995 EMMY for best single children's program.
