Archving of talk pages

Why are you making so many RFA archives? We usually dont archive until we near 32kB, and when we do, we archive the entire 32kB chunk. Those archives you made are ridiculously short. --Jiang 08:59, 21 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Sub headings on day pages

Please don't put subheadings on day pages - it makes the TOC way too long and isn't needed in the great majority of cases (except February 11 and maybe a few others). --mav 22:24, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Dividing it up based on century is a better and more useful thing to do. See March 5. This gives the read extra background info on the century the event/birth/death happened in and gives the editor the ability to more easily keep all these related pages up to date. --mav

Hindi Wikipedia

I was bothered about Hindi & Tamil Wikipedia's (I don't know any other Indian language :( ) calling themselves "gratis" (निःशुल्क) instead of "free as in freedom" for a long time. See hi:वार्ता:मुख्य पृष्ठ. Thankfully now it has been replaced, but आज़ाद has been mis-spellt आझाद. Also IMHO, आज़ाद seems to imply Wikipedia is free from something else and not that anyone is free to contribute. Is there any better Hindi word for that? For example how is "free software" translated? The Tamil translation for "free software" has been discussed in ilugc and FSF India. Similar discussions might have led to some Hindi translation for "free." -- Paddu 08:37, 9 Mar 2004 (UTC)

FWIW, the unofficial Hindi translation [1] of the GFDL listed in [2], calls free documentation मुक्त प्रलेखन. Googling for "free software" मुक्त gives many hits, including one from Mandrake Linux. Googling for "free software" आज़ाद gives only this page. And, oh! I forgot to mention that the tamil translation (loosely?) translates to "बन्धन-रहित." -- Paddu 14:50, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Nagpur

Nagpur was the capital of some regions during the Raj. After independence Vidharba was merged with Maharashtra and Nagpur was made a secondary capital [3]. I think this is still the case because I once stayed in something called "MLA hostel" in Nagpur. -- Arvindn 19:23, 14 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Bandra East

Why don't you research on Bandra East being the capital of Suburban Bombay intead of merely deleting it? You should know since you are living in the suburbs. The collector's office for suburban Bombay is situated in Bandra East for a start. Research before deleting facts!

Accented Letters

I have purposely accented the e's. The reason is that many people from around the world may not know the correct pronounciation. Although pure english does not allow accenting, borrowed phrases such as cybercafé, are given accents for correct pronounciation, for which true (Queen's) English does not support. Just think how a Japanese, Canadian or a Brazilian would pronounce the Maharashtrian surname PIMPLE? ;)

That's the reason why I accented the letters, although technically I am wrong.

Railway Lines

Please go ahead with the railway network. However at the present moment I do not have info about stations beyond Virar & Thane.

Contributions

We are the only two significant contributors to Bombay city page. Let's work together and try to see how to improve the page information. I feel that each suburban station should have its own page eg. Kurla. Also a list of colleges, hospitals etc should be added. How about concentrating on these for the next few weeks?

List of Indians

Different lists have been made up differently. Some have the convention of a birth and death year against the person's name, some just have a few words relevant to the list topic. I did find a few instances where the "son of" relationship was used -

• List_of_people_by_name:_Le : Lee, Brandon, (1965-1993), son of Bruce Lee
• List_of_Jews : Kate Hudson, US actress, daughter of Goldie Hawn

I don't think there can ever be a convention made for what to put against a person's name in a list.

What you're talking about is not just lists but way of writing articles whereby you decide on priorities and the sequence of information to include about the person. Its a different thing altogether and needs to be mentioned in Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies).

However I'm not pursuing this list thing any further, I'd rather put the information in List of show business families which I just discovered. Jay 00:39, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Growth

The actual growth is pretty minor. It does not give the actual indication of the rise in population because it also includes Thane, Greater Mumbai (after certain dates) etc. Also the figures increases the overall length of the page. Nichalp 19:08, Apr 23, 2004 (UTC)

Hello! Many of us have been doing a good job, adding a lot to Mumbai suburbs (like Bandra, Santacruz, Andheri, Mulund etal.). It's high time we have a standard template for this purpose.

I suggest - A brief intro, Geography(PIN Code, Neighbouring/Nearest Railway Stations, Neighbouring Suburbs, Main Roads), History, Educational Institutions, Places to Visit.
