movie translations: Tagalog to English[edit]

Whoever translated the movie titles from Tagalog to English should really take extra English grammar classes. The titles are very badly translated and are unintentionally funny (Ang Maestro, The Master?). Besides, translating the movie title is only meant for movies which were picked up by American producers and was actually shown in the U.S. or other English-speaking countries, so translating the titles into English is really useless, not to mention embarrassing to whoever wrote it. My little cousin in the 3rd grade can do a better job than that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.96.131.171 (talk) 07:22, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh that's nice. You want extra-arge fries with it?--Eaglestorm (talk) 00:49, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

edits and proofreading[edit]

I edited and corrected some stuff on this page. I made a different entry for his presidential bid, so as not to interfere with the main subject of this entry, which is his acting career. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Innocentyears (talkcontribs) 16:27, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FPJ the Actor[edit]

This wikipedia page on FPJ concentrates more on the political side of his life. Can anybody please add more information and details about his film career aside from the information that we have here already? His film career should outweigh the politics. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.224.52.44 (talk) 17:08, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone please correct the English grammatical errors?[edit]

Would someone please correct the grammatical errors in this article?

Just take a look at his section: Poe Jr.'s parents were not legally married yet when he was born in 1939, which Poe, Jr.'s Filipino citizenship would much later in life be called into question as he was the illegitimate son of a non-Filipino mother, according to his political opponents who sought to disqualify him from running in a political race. Although, his parents later married in 1940.

Rabies[edit]

I think this was mentioned in some news articles and television programs from the Philippines during the presidential campaign. And here is one from the Philippine Daily Inquirer --Jojit fb 11:25, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Other reports are a bite from a rabid puppy. However, rabies *can* be transmitted by a lick, and it's also possible he was licked and then bitten. I can't prove one or the other; from what little I understand (no Tagalog) most of the news casts here (Phils) are carrying the lick alternative, but that probably means their background information is coming from the same source. -- sdfisher 16:50, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Based on the Philippine Daily Inquirer report (and others as well), it was FPJ himself who said that his father died after the rabid puppies licked his wounds. Maybe to be safe, we can rephrase the sentence to -- However, according to Poe, his father died in 1951 after rabid puppies licked his wounds. --Jojit fb 03:09, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I like that idea. It gives proper credit to the statement... which should probably be done anyway. --sdfisher 02:44, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Fernando Po[edit]

What about a note:

This article is not about Fernando Po. --Wetman 16:56, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I think it is plausible that people confuse the tow terms. Added a hatnote.--Lenticel (talk) 00:36, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name of Poe's mother[edit]

Because frequent deletes of the "Elizabeth" as the name of Poe's mother, I cited sources in the internet regarding this. Actually Bessie and Elizabeth are both correct. Bessie was her nickname while Elizabeth was her official name or it could be the opposite. So to make it safe, I didn't mentioned what her official name was. I just cited that some sources in the Philippine press stated that her name was also called Elizabeth. --Jojit fb 04:50, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)

GA Hold[edit]

1. Prose- Introduction needs to conform to Wikipedia:Lead section, multiple references footnotes to the same source in one paragraph are not necessary unless the source changes, style guidelines frown on short sections and paragraphs, a few Wikipedia:Words to avoid to be removed. Some sort of Wikipedia:Embedded list is needed or at least use a chart for the list. See Brad Pitt's filmography list for example. One problem with the intro is not talk of his death.

2. Verifiable- Check, but first two paragraphs under Presidential election need references for a few sentences or the location of the current reference needs to be moved to the end of the paragraph.

3. Coverage- The election coverage is too brief and needs to be expanded. Considering the large number of films, the discussion of his acting career seems quite short.

4. NPOV- Check

5. Stable- Check

6. Images- Check

I'm not sure if all of these improvements can be made quickly, but I wish you the best of luck in getting it down. If you have any questions, just write on this talk page and I'll get back to you.User:calbear22 (talk) 05:23, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Pass or Fail:

This article needs repair. First grammar problems are throughout. Most areas aren't worded correctly (grammar-wise and wikipedia-wise) using terms such as movie, and linking common terms such as high school, 9-ball, throat, and wrist. The images are fine, but fair-use rationale for the second image needs to be completed. Titles for the article's subheadings need to be redone, or maybe merging them together into one cohesive section would be best. After these problems are fixed, the article can be re-nominated. Fixed the second image's FU--Lenticel (talk) 11:19, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And here we go again with the descent part...[edit]

Why do we Filipinos love to claim that our people are of foreign ancestry? I'm sure the majority of us are but please, this is Wikipedia, people! Please provide citations if FPJ is really of Irish, Catalan, Kapampangan, and Spanish descent? And I don't see a link or a sentence in the article saying that he's from Pampanga or he was Kapampangan. Again, provide citations for verifications if these facts are indeed true. Sairyu (talk) 06:29, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • As well as the Pangasinan and American ancestry part too. Sairyu (talk) 06:31, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
