Self link[edit]

Re: List of group theory topics This is a peculiar situation, because as it stands it is the only page in all of the english Wikipedia that self links. Go to special pages, maintenance page to find this out. Is there any reason why you can't use the "Watch this article" function to accomplish what you want? Eclecticology 20:45 Nov 17, 2002 (UTC)

Oddly enough, I started doing this after the List of mathematical topics had a self-reference added by AxelBoldt for the same reason; however I notice that User:RTC and Axel are having the same game of ping-pong as you and I!
It is quite convenient, since items are often added to both lists before any article or stub is created; and thus seeing changes to the lists acts as a form of "wanted" articles amongst the math contributors. Whereas most other wikipedians may simply click on "Recent Changes" on arriving at wikipedia, I bookmark the [list of xxx:related changes] pages, then click on them to see the status; this is our sort (half-assed) approach to a math "wikiProject".
Adding all the mathematical topics to my watch list is impractical; and so having a separate step of "first check list of changes, then check changes to list" seems a bit of a hassle.
I don't think this "breaks" the database in any way; it's just silly practice in a normal article. But these aren't normal articles - they are maintenance pages. Chas zzz brown 21:29 Nov 17, 2002 (UTC)
(P.S.: As a side point, the self-link that you removed at Recursion will probably be replaced - it's a joke for the mathematically minded (see Talk:Recursion), and one which I find a bit amusing as well.)

Subset sum problem[edit]

Why is the subset sum problem a problem of group theory specifically? 109.154.58.129 (talk) 14:33, 18 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Famous problems[edit]

It would be nice if the Famous Problem section could have two subsection: Solved Problems and Unsolved Problems. 109.154.58.129 (talk) 14:35, 18 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
