C-Tec

Proposed deletion

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article C-Tec, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Importance). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:C-Tec. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. • Unfortunately, I did not see this before the article was deleted. If it is possible to un-delete it, I feel this step should be taken. I don't understand why C-tec would not be considered notable enough to have their own article. They fall well within the bounds of importance, as defined by Wikipedia:WikiProject_Music/Notability_and_Music_Guidelines. Primarily, the band consists of members of Cubanate and Front 242, both of whom are unarguably notable. If it is not too late, this deletion should surely be reconsidered, and I do not think that it should be deleted simply because I have been unable to check my messages, and therefore couldn't argue for it. I'm sorry but I was unable to decide from the article that it was notable. But you provide good arguments so I agree it should be undeleted. I've requested so here and here. You being unable to argue is indeed a reason for speedy undeletion. I'm sorry it got deleted (don't take it personal) and hope it is restored soon and you don't resent me for proposing it -I acted in good faith. Sister Machine Gun

Hi Sovex. Are you a reporter or journalist? The facts are that I was the lead guitarist of Sister Machine Gun which started 17 years ago in Soho New york (rehearsal studio building basement at Wooster street). The band was initially Chris Randall and myself Bill (Guilherme). We played at New York's Limelight and at the Pipeline in Newark NJ. Sasha from KMFDM heard our sound and became interested and thought we could get signed to a label. Sasha offered a job as a roadie to Randall For KMFDM's tour. That'a how Randall ended up in Chicago. Sasha lived there and Wax Trax was there. I joined Randall in Chicago in August 1991 to record the demo at Chicago Trax. This demo, which was presented to Wax Trax, had Sasha as the producer and contribution from Jim Marcus, Al Jourgensen and Sasha himself. I played guitar on all the tracks. In September and October we were recording the album "Sins of the Flesh". I quit Sister Machine Gun the following year. The name of the band came directly from Skinny Puppy's "Tin Omen", Chris asked what I thought of it and did not really cared, for I just wanted to play.

Can all of this be verified and supported? Yes. I have plenty of photos, the demo and plenty of witnesses who could confirm all of this. I know I'm not cited anywhere as member of Sister Machine Gun, but it does not mean that my contribution to Sister Machine Gun was insignificant. Or perhaps that what I'm writing cannot be substantiated by Chris Randall himself. I know why he never mentioned me as a member of the band, but I'll save that story (which could be absolutely substatiated) perhaps for an interview, phone call, letter, essay,etc.... Here is only the facts. No grudge or sour grapes from my part. I understand you wish not to post this contribution to your work, but the facts are here and it is all true. I would never take the time to write all of this if it these events were not the truth. Perhaps a newspaper article or show listing would help? I don't know.....I know Sister Machine Gun is not this huge success that I should get so interested to take part of its history and get my 2 minutes of fame. It's not that. Just report the facts as it was seen by people and not only by what was written. History will not change for those who were there......for they saw and knew that Sister Machine Gun started as Chris Randall and Guilherme (Bill). That will not change and if it is not reported in your piece, then this entry of Sister machine Gun is not accurate. I was just trying to make it detailed and accurate. Thank you for the opportunity. I've emailed SMG directly, and they have replied that the information in the article is bogus. Until you can absolutely prove that you were a part of the band, it should be left out.

No, I am not a reporter. I am a fan of SMG, and a Wikipedia user, and I want to make sure that the article is factual and informative. I am not solely responsible for this article. It's the nature of Wikipedia that anyone can edit any article, and claim anything they want (as you have done). Without sources to back up the information, though, edits like this should not be considered factual.

This article has been in existence since 2004. Why does this information need to be added to it 4 years later? Furthermore, why, if this information is so important, has it not come up for the 17 years the band existed?

It still sounds like sour grapes, and Wikipedia is not the place to claim your "2 minutes of fame". When you make claims like this, but say "I don't have any immediate proof, and the founder of the band will claim it's untrue", it sounds a whole lot like "I am making things up".

In concession to you, when I clean up the article later, I will remove the information that could be deemed as hearsay, but I will keep your name in the "former members" section. However, I will add a tag to your name that citation and proof are needed to keep it there. I'm not trying to be combative to you, but when a claim like this comes out of the blue, it needs more than hearsay to be considered substantial and true.

PS, please read up on how to use Wikipedia. You wiped out my user page when you posted this there.

Bill, I have recieved confirmation from Chris Randall that you were indeed a member. I apologize for making this into such an issue. The information was simply not available to me or the general public. I will still be cleaning up the article later, because it's in bad shape, and needs work.

I am not trying to cause trouble. I am trying to place the truth in the article. If one knows that the sources are mistaken can one prove them wrong with photos and /or archive footage? Once an erroneous piece of information is spread as gospel, how can one undo the damage? Do you have any advice? (Offonvol (talk) 03:00, 30 January 2008 (UTC))

If you're going to make something encyclpaedic, it needs to have sources other than "Some guy told me so, it's the truth". Why does the information that you are insisting is truth matter? What matters is facts about the band. What you're posting sounds like some sort of petty grudge from someone who missed out when the band went on to be successful without them.

Who is Bill Machado? He's not credited on any albums. He has no writing credits. Plenty of bands have insignificant members before making it. Why does he matter? What did he contribute that made such a huge impact? He happened to be around when a band started 16-17 years ago? That's hugely insignificant. Why are there no articles that state he was a member of the band? If he was indeed a member, just leave him in the "past members section", and stop focusing the article around him.

Why would the band name origin need to be fraudulently spread around by publicists? Did or does Sister Machine Gun even have publicists? It's not like they were ever a huge national act. Most people still believe that the Tin Omen origin is true, which is why I added the correction to the article in the first place. What average person even knows or cares about the Jim Marcus essay? You make it sound like some sort of vast conspiracy, yet even most fans of the band aren't aware of it.

While we're playing the "he told me so" game, I got the information from Chris Randall himself at a show in 02. No "publicists". Sorry, but I will trust someone who has been solely responsible for the success of a band for it's entire duration than someone who left in its early days.

Oh, and I cited sources to support my information too, something you seem unwilling to do.

Why are lines such as "sometimes people step on people" important to the article? It sounds like more sour grapes, and is seemingly only in place to discredit Chris Randall.

I could keep going, but I think I've pretty much made my point. Wikipedia is for information, not speculation. What you insist is important isn't, until it's proven so. Until you can provide concrete proof that your information NEEDS to be a part of the article, please leave it out.

In the coming days, I will clean up the article to better conform to encyclopedia standards. In the meantime, if you're so sure that what you have to add is important, get to work on finding some verifiable sources to support your information. This is not a place for you and your buddy Bill to air your grievances with Chris Randall. If you have a problem with him, drop him an email. Leave it out of Wikipedia.

You are right, the article needs to meet encyclopedia standards and yes maybe the quote "people step on people" comment was over the top. Please understand that I only recently started using Wikipedia and also that the SMG chapter in my life as well as Bill's was closed ever since Bill left the band ... until I decided to do the search for it, and to my amusement find out that Bill had basically been "erased" from the history of the band. I am glad that Chris decided to confirm Bill's part in the band ... I'm not sure he would've answered any of our e-mails. Deep down all I wanted was to make the article historically accurate. I've cleaned up the article a bit. Bill is mentioned as a member, but anything non-neutral and/or inflammatory has been removed. I've been in correspondence with Chris Randall, and we're going to work on making the article much more complete and informative. Some details will probably be glossed over, but keep in mind that the purpose is to inform the average person, rather than appeal to completists. I apologize for my earlier harsh tone, and thank you for bringing this info to light.
