Untitled[edit]

The version of 14:18, 29 Jul 2004 by 217.37.197.161 is a copy of this page from the A-Z website. I have reverted. --rbrwrˆ 10:21, 8 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Infobox[edit]

I know this makes the page more London-centric (see below), but I really think this page required a book-style infobox. If anyone can generalise it to non-London editions, go ahead. wild-gazelle (talk) 15:37, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Only London?[edit]

I, and everyone else I know (including Londoners), use "The A-Z" to mean any of the range, certainly not just the map of London. Isn't the current wording a bit London-centric? Loganberry (Talk) 22:00, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is, and after more than a year I've finally edited it! Loganberry (Talk) 01:28, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Geographers London Map 1957 Cover.jpg[edit]

Image:Geographers London Map 1957 Cover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

breaking out of london, AND bringing illustration of the map up to date[edit]

OK, so we have one of the best selling and recognisable local-scale streetmaps in the UK, and the nearest representation we can find of it is mid-1950s, when both the name and the style were completely different? Unacceptable. In the interest of showing what the thing *actually* looks like (with a self contained demo of distinctive design, typical size*/thickness, ring binding, inset of distinctive cartographic style and text listing of main features, plus the general condition they end up in after ~18 months of use), I present this picture of the 2nd-to-most recent Birmingham & Black Country edition. Unfortunately I'm not 100% on how to properly upload and insert it to the wiki other than dropping the imageshack link here for others to use.

  • OK, maybe not absolute size as I didn't include any points of reference, but this is the typical just-less-than-A5 (B6?) edition... and they come in a wide range of sizes anyway.

As I've just pulled my own copy of it out of a work bag, slapped it on the desk, taken a randomly-composed picture of it with my phone camera then bluetoothed it to the PC, I think it would be churlish to do anything less than release it into the public domain. Please use it wisely. I believe it should be happily covered by fair use - low rez, not replacable, unsuitable for faking your own copy, illustrates more than just a scan of the cover image etc. No damage meant to the Geographer's A-Z company without whose reasonably priced products I'd have regularly been found paddle-less up crap creek and/or shelling out a lot more cash for a less comprehensive, countrywide Sat Nav when 99.9% of my travels are covered by this, an ancient UK routeplanner, and a couple other (much thinner) city maps.

Misspelling in head word[edit]

The head word on this page is wrongly spelt and seems impossible to edit. The word Geographers is plural and the apostophe should follow the S as it does all through the text.217.155.200.241 (talk) 17:00, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dating old atlases[edit]

I have an edition 10 (5) pocket atlas. I estimate it is from about 1976, because Embankment Underground Station is annotated "Charing Cross until '76"

The maps are printed in black and white and the scales are Imperial 2.5" and 5" to the mile.

The WP article says all maps have an encoded date. Well, not this one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.47.135.239 (talk) 21:44, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Now Collins?[edit]

It seems that Geographers has been bought by Harper Collins. See https://www.thebookseller.com/news/collins-buys-z-list-new-chapter-brand-1163916 . Maybe someone can investigate and update if necessary? (Should this page become a historical page about Geographers A-Z, or should it be an updated page about the product irrespective of the owner?) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.179.89.208 (talk) 19:35, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
