The layout is there and also some content but due to lack of time during the recent past I was unable to bring it to the final 'publication suitable' form. Perhaps you could help me in giving the final touches? STTW (talk) 11:28, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You could get some tips from Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Outreach#Newsletter or from Wikipedia:WikiProject_Germany/Outreach/Newsletter/May_2007. Best of luck, STTW (talk) 19:11, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Europe Proposal[edit]

Hi, I see you're a member of the European Microstates project. I was wondering if you would be interested in participating in a new "WikiProject:Europe"? It would cover non-EU pan European elements and more national elements where there isn't a project to cover it (e.g. there is no project for Slovenia). Microstates might also want to become a taskforce of the project to keep down overheads etc as there are just a few members. I am just trying to get an idea of numbers before I propose it but if you have comments on the idea please see the Discussion on WPEU. Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Andorra2005logo.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:08, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Hi! I'm happy that you like my idea. I tell you that i don't speak english very well and so please forgive my mistakes. Well .. for the earlier games it's not easy to find the results and the winners, but I remember that I have found a website with the athletics (and probably swimming) winners and records. We have to look for that. Another thing.. unfortunately you have to do the most of the work .. i'm not very expert in en.wiki and I can only give you an help. Bossacucanova[edit]

When I saw the page, that's all I saw, and the most that I could see about notability was their nomination for a award. Looking again at WP:MUSIC, I erred. Apologies, I'll remove the tag and your {hangon} now. --Rodhullandemu 02:49, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FL Main page proposal[edit]

You nominated a current WP:FLC. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual main page will resemble either an excerpted list format or an abbreviated text format. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 16:22, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for the advise. Actually I usually tag articles asking for citation. But, most of the time, active authors working on those articles do not care much. Interestingly when I tagged them for AfD by twisting (but not breaking) the policy mentioning that those articles don't have enough (sometime not a single) citation, they took it really seriously. To be very honest, my intention was to improve quality of Wikipedia, not to attack some particular article or author. And, I do also agree that this is actually misuse of policy. So here goes a promise, I won't do this in future. Cheers. -- Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 18:51, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tri-Metro Conference Teams[edit]

In order to get the v-d-e {{Navbox}} needs to be used. Here's two examples using Navbox. Which one do you think looks better?

This AFD was archived before I could reply. I agree that AFD is for deciding whether a n article should be kept, rather than a tool for improvement, but many times I have added refs as a result of seeing an article at AFD which improved it so that it was a far better article than when it was nominated. Thus it is a frequent side effect of AFD nomination. I have also tagged many articles as unreferenced. I did this to a number of articles a year ago, and reviewing them, I see many now have references. I don't know if the references resulted from someone moinitoring the list of articles tagged as unreferenced, or if it would have happened anyway. In a few puzzling cases, someone added references, but left the "unreferenced" tag. Some languish with no refs other than hyperlinks to other Wikipedia articles, such as He Shi Bi and Thermal optimum. Some had the "unreferenced" tag removed without any reference being added [1]. I "re-tagged" the latter article. Edison (talk) 01:03, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry the talk page is so long. I have to "re-figure out" how to archive the old stuff. Edison (talk) 15:42, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Cont_gssemblem.gif[edit]

I have tagged Image:Cont_gssemblem.gif as a disputed use of non-free media, because there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please clarify your fair use rationale on the image description page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 08:28, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:RAT. It states: A detailed fair use rationale. A separate rationale must be provided each time the image is used in an article. The name of the article the image is used in must be included in the rationale. Whether or not the name of the article is elsewhere is irrelevant. It needs to be in the rationale section.--Rockfang (talk) 09:08, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help[edit]

Thanks for your help so far of the Aoife Hoey (bobsleigh) article. I really appreciate it. Chris (talk) 16:46, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will not argue with you on that though have they ever deleted an article proposed by an anonymous IP before? If that happens, then Wikipedia as a project unto itself will have lost all order. Chris (talk) 22:42, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed that last week and I sent it to WP:AN/I though I got a luke warm response. Ditto with the abusive ISPs. They can only act on the ISPs when one of them has been blocked a minimum of five times. Chris (talk) 23:51, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have exposed the links in Hoey and in another female Irish triple jumper earlier tonight. Whoever is doing it seems to be pretty focused on their deletions and almost nonsensical in their efforts. Chris (talk) 04:02, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It looks as if I have ticked this user off with him coming back with the accusations on the editing though the IP evidence is beginning to prove my point. I have a strange feeling there will be repercussions on this that we have forseen. Chris (talk) 14:09, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have also sent heads up to other users who are involved in the fight to keep Sharon Foley that we have the Dublin connection involved on this. One of them though is an administrator, so let's see how that plays out. Chris (talk) 16:33, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Aoife Hoey article (formerly Aoife Hoey (bobsleigh)) was kept. I have sent a message with an administrator involved in the Sharon Foley article about this user (or users) from Dublin, Ireland to keep an eye out for this user because we may have won this battle, but this promises to be a long fight, IMO. Chris (talk) 15:43, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The same user from Dublin tried to get both the Hoey and the Foley articles through deletion review after he lost, but he was turned down. We have a real vandal on our hands, IMO. Chris (talk) 15:57, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am hitting this user with vandalism level 3 warnings on all of the Dublin, Ireland IPs as a warnings of taking no prisoners. This is going to be a long fight I fear. Chris (talk) 16:17, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It turns out he has also hit on the Alex Higgins article who was an Irish snooker player in the early 1990s. The main editor of that article is aware of this as well. The Dublin user is definitely POVing and vandalism. We have three or four administrators watching several of these article to see if this user(s) stirkes again which I suspect he might. Chris (talk) 15:07, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Matt,

I red your message on the uppon mentionned page. I am sceptic about this article, because I searched for the titles and ISBN mentionned in the OCLC database and found nothing, please, have a look at ISBN 9729813701. I tried on Google books as well with "Martiniano Ferreira Botelho", but nothing. The only references about this person on the Internet are Wikipedia. If you can find any reliable reference about this person, please do not hesitate to let me know or add it directly in the article. Best regards. SalomonCeb (talk) 01:16, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your answer. No problem, I have myself the same reaction when someone ask for deletion of an article which is present on others WP. In this case, I studied more carefuly the only reference that was first given but I found nothing. Since the other references were given, I did same and nothing again. My last search was on Google and there, I found the only occurences were WP and blogs and websites of the article's writer. I am not a suppressionnist myself, but in this case, I do an exception. Best regards. SalomonCeb (talk) 08:30, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jeremy Stenberg[edit]

The original article which was created last year was not very good and one could argue about how notable Stenberg is. However, the reason that the article has been speedy deleted twice due to vandalism. The version that I deleted read simply "has tourette's". Now, a conscientious admin might have checked the earlier versions to see if there was a legitimate article behind the vandalism. Apparently, I either didn't check or was underwhelmed by the non-vandalized original page. You could make a case for restoring the original page but it was pretty awful and it would be better to write a real article instead of fighting to restore the old page.

Just because the article was deleted doesn't mean you are prohibited from creating a new one as long as the new article meets Wikipedia standards and is incompliance with Wikipedia policies.

I have restored the original article to User:Matt91486/Jeremy Stenberg. Please improve it and then move it into article namespace.

Happy editing, --Richard (talk) 07:54, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

I saw your question on No57s talkpage. The main reason the criteria have been deemed no good is that edirors went to Wikipedia:Deletion review en masse citing the new criteria as the reason that their conference player should be undeleted, clogging the system, Deletion Review needed that to stop (obviously) so they undermined the criteria. I have basically given up, I hoped for a set of simple, coherent criteria by consensus, applicable to world football, believing that it would be better than Anglo-centric notability by precedent with reference to one sentence on WP:BIO, but it's been shot down. I think I'll just go back to creating articles, Wikipedia policy is obviously set in stone. (Oh and I changed my name) English peasant 21:52, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

St. Anthony[edit]

Officially, the city is named St. Anthony: you'll not find a "village" reference from the Census, and the city website speaks of the "City of St. Anthony". As the about page notes, it's "also affectionately called "The Village" by locals". Local nicknames don't trump official names.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Alotroladoposter.jpg}[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Alotroladoposter.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. While the AfD has been closed as no consensus, the discussion is continuing here. You are invited to participate. Thank you. --Jaysweet (talk) 20:21, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. I have been using maps from the US Census [4] and then I edit them in Paint. They're fair use from that website, which includes county outlines for all of the states and territories. WP:FOOTBALL bot run[edit]

I just really want to be clear on one thing. At its current state ShepBot will be adding over 340,000 articles to your project's worklist. Now that's fine by me, but that's a huge step for a project. Right now I'll just do those few categories you gave me on my talkpage. But when this is over, you guys are going to be one giant project. Of course that 340,000 is if all of those categories I gave you guys fall under your project. There's an exteremly slim chance of that, but I guess it could happen. When page 1 of those cats is double checked let me know and we'll start those as well. If you have any questions, as always feel free to drop by my page or leave me a {{talkback}}. Cheers. §hep¡Talk to me! 16:45, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to let you know that after the tagging of all the football players you guys have 20743 (and rising) unassesed articles. I can run through that category and grab the ratings the other porjects have given that article is it has been assessed and put that information in the football template. Here's an example of what it would do: [8] . I can also auto-stub all article in Category:Football (soccer) stubs. Let me know what you think. §hep¡Talk to me! 17:39, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's the idea. IF: {{Foo|class=start}}{{football|class=}}, REPLACE: {{Foo|class=start}}{{Football|class=Start}} I'll get on it later this weekend. Headed to the lake for the day. §hep¡Talk to me! 15:26, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Maccabi Tel Aviv BC coaches, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Maccabi Tel Aviv BC coaches has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Maccabi Tel Aviv BC coaches, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. The only page I made major edits on is North Coast League, adding history, state championships, images, etc. I have made a few minor edits on a couple other conferences. I agree the threats are crazy. United States Frank Anchor Talk to me 19:33, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Matt[edit]

Sorry I'm just getting back to you concerning the post you sent me on the 1st. I was away on a family vacation the last ten days camping in New Hampshire. As far as the Ohio HS Conferences, I am in no rush to re-list the 27 articles I recommended for deletion. I think you are doing a great job, so personally you guys can have the summer to continue to keep the progress going. Therefore, it's probably premature for me to lay out a plan for the next AfD. Unfortunately for your sake most of the people who wanted these articles to stay and expanded of the discussion seem to have disappeared. Hopefully you'll get help from those especially interested in the subject matter and then we don't need to think about another AfD. I'll get back involved in the discussion next week when I have some free time. Goodluck! --New Zealand UWMSports (talk) 05:21, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey man, I'm just dropping by to apologize for not getting on these articles like you have. I know medical isn't an excuse with these as I've been active elsewhere. I wanted to thank you for taking all of the time you have with these articles. It's funny though, when I give Burp a deadline he takes me to WP:Etiquette; he's something else. WP:FOOTY discussion[edit]

Hi Matt, not to sound annoying or anything, but I've recently started a discussion regarding the names of Brazilian clubs on wikipedia (here) and considering the scale and importance of the clubs involved and the fact that there is no formal move request, I thought it might be a good idea to inform some of the regular WP:FOOTY contributors in order to get a consensus and not just a few opinions. So if you could take a second to express your opinion, it would be appreciated, cheers. BanRay 22:25, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the names of the Maltese village articles[edit]

There is currently an ongoing debate about whether the articles on Maltese villages should be given their English names. Kyarichy has already gone and renamed a bunch of articles such as as Kalkara citing these changes from an old obsolete paper and http://www.geody.com, even though these names are no longer in use.

The naming conventions clearly state that foreign location names commonly used in English should be used as the article names.

It would be appreciated if you could assist us in this discussion. ~ ► Wykebjs ◄ (userpage | talk) 11:00, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deaths in 200x pages[edit]

  • Hello... there is an (admittedly fairly recent) consensus on the pages that the listings will be as inclusive as possible (sticking to the usual guidelines of verifiability and still not listing obviously n.n. folk like beloved grandmas, etc.) at the time of the deaths, and the redlinks for people with articles still not written would be removed after one month of their not having an article. It generally works as an incentive for people to actually create the articles they think should exist: i did one on Danny Moss because i thought he deserved to be on the list too, for instance. i think you should be able to find discussion on the matter on the last few months' talk pages. Best, tomasz. 08:49, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Club America[edit]

Hello there, well the Chivas-America is a long-standing rivalry, in Mexico is traditional to have this polls (yearly), last year America was the most "loved" followed by Chivas, but usually America is also the most "hated". I'm agree with you, it should not be in the article headings, perhaps in a popularity section. JC 12:30 11 Ago 2002 (PST)

Considering when I nominated the article all it said was "Peruvian Football player that was part of the U-17 team that made it to the quarterfinals of the u-17 world cup in S. Korea." It didn't need to be looked into thoroughly. Hubschrauber729 (talk) 20:28, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You removed my proposed deletion of the article Brazil–Japan relations, stating that the topic being valid is enough criteria for any article to exist. It is my opinion that the article would even meet the criteria for speedy deletion under A3, as there is nothing on the page other than links to other articles. Is there any reason the validity of a topic is enough to justify an article without content? Perhaps the article would fit better under WP:RA instead. 'Croatian top league' reply[edit]

Yes, the Prva HNL is a professional and official league system. It is the top tier of Croatian football. The two top clubs, Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split have both had history in the Champions League and UEFA Cup throughout recent years; Dinamo has qualified for the UEFA cup once again this year, meaning that the league itself (and all the teams) are officially registered with UEFA as the top professional league of Croatia. Yes it is difficult to find references for such. I have done my broad best, and hopefully this will help you. Domiy (talk) 22:33, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fully Professional Leagues[edit]

I don't understand why you reverted my changes as they were all unsourced, although at least you and others have subsequently found some sources. Thanks for your response, but surely facts such as the ones we're discussing have to be sourced for a page to have much meaning. Proposed deletion of Suzy Aitchison[edit]

The article Suzy Aitchison has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:NN, unremarkable actress

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Toddst1 (talk) 13:18, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Mike Milligan (basketball coach) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. warrior4321 23:21, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Milligan[edit]

Milligan's real name is Walter S. Milligan. He went almost exclusively by Mike. He was a guard on some of the legendary Pitt football teams from 1930-1932 under Jock Sutherland. He coached freshman at Pitt through 1939 and then took a coaching job at Florida before ending up at Tulsa. At least by 1946 he was back as an assistant at Pitt and then moved into the head coaching position from 1947-1949 (where he had two relatively successful 6-3 seasons). He later went on to become a notable line coach including at USC (1950) and Purdue (1951-?). He is much better known for his football coaching. The article should actually be moved to Mike Milligan (coach) or Walter Milligan (per WP:UCN) Walter S. "Mike" Milligan or Walter "Mike" Milligan. He was inducted into the Aliquippa Sports Hall of Fame in 1974. He certainly is notable, but the article is currently named for a relatively obscure line on his coaching resume and that should be corrected. CrazyPaco (talk) 00:58, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine for the move. I had no idea he had coached at Tulsa so there is no way I would have thought that was him until you brought it to my attention. It's interesting he took on basketball for a year. Thanks for contacting me about it! CrazyPaco (talk) 03:56, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for April 7[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Minnesota Twins all-time roster, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jeff Gray (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Re: Timberwolves[edit]

Hello Matt91486:

I'm not opposed to adding in "nationality" or "club" back into the list, and I'm open to discussion on that front. I think that the "jersey number" column didn't really add anything to the list however. As for the stats, I don't think it would be that hard to update since I would only be adding new players to the list a few times during the course of the season, and I'd be updating about 20 players stats at the end of the season. Albacore (talk) 17:48, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I assume that there is not a standardization for this list since a reviewer at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Minnesota Timberwolves all-time roster (A–K)/archive1 asked me to start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Basketball Association about these types of lists, which I have. As for the rebounds, I think they show the defensive value of a player, as the points show the offensive value. I previewed what the list would look like if I added both, and I can add both nationality and the club, but nothing else (on my viewing monitor I have to scroll to the right to see everything after "Reb" on the Charlotte Bobcats all-time roster list). Hello Matt91486. I wonder if you would be kind enough to spare me a couple of seconds of your time. My name is CharlieTheCabbie and I am active as a participant at the Malta WikiProject. I notice that you are listed as a member of the project. It appears to have been a long time since the project was active and, in the hope of fixing stuff, I am trying to hunt out all the editors who still interested in working on it. If you would be kind enough to go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Malta/Members and indicate whether you are still active or, if not, please move yourself to the Inactive Members section. Thank you for your help :) CharlieTheCabbie|paġna utenti|diskussjoni 19:36, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I guess I only find it an issue if I consider it a finished list, which I don't, per Wikipedia:FINISHED. If the topic itself is intrinsically notable, then I think there should be an article on it, even if that article as such is not in particularly good shape. The early signs are that the AfD is going to agree with your perspective on it, it looks like. matt91486 (talk) 04:28, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
