Independent charts[edit]

This album was the first to top the British Independent LP chart when it started in 1979, rather giving the lie to the theory that Adam Ant was nowhere commercially previous to "Dog Eat Dog": he just wasn't selling records in Woolworths.

Cover[edit]

About the line:

If we are talking about the song, it is fine... if we are talking about the album, it needs to look like this:
... before Adam went on to fame with Kings of the Wild Frontier.

No Remixing on 1983 Epic/CBS version![edit]

I've deleted all references to the CBS/Epic 1983 version being remixed as it is a complete myth put about by reviewers at the time. All the mixes are the same as on the original Do It discs 80.249.48.108 (talk) 18:33, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Possible improvements[edit]

My apologies—I am not a music historian or a frequent Wikipedia contributor and I cannot devote the time to this sort of research; but this entry is woefully deficient. It lacks all discussion of the record's creation—inspiration, songwriting, recording, and anything to do with the music industry that midwifed "Dirk". It lacks discussion of the record's release, exposure, and charting in places other than Britain. It lacks significant context on what Ant and the band were doing in the period immediately preceding and succeeding the record's release (I'm not sure how you can say the group "disbanded after the album was released" without mentioning Malcolm McLaren). The "Reception" subhead should actually discuss how the record was received by the public and the critics, not (or not merely) how it was assessed "retrospectively" by a single critic years later. Most of this content you request belongs on the Adam and the Ants article, not this one. It's someone's first album so as is usual there wasn't much in the way of creation of a solid body of work, just a compilation of stuff that was getting played live at the shows (most of it fairly recent stuff except for Cleopatra.) As far as anyone knows it never did chart anywhere other than in Britain. Another poster has pointed out that it was the number 1 in the first ever Indie Charts, however it did not touch the mainstream UK Album Chart until Feb 1981, largely off the back of the success of the follow-up Kings album its and associated singles. 86.138.4.86 (talk) 11:07, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
