any idea how he died? I heard a rumor it was some exotic circumstance but I'd like to quash it if it's untrue.

I assume this refers to the philosopher. If someone knows how, this discussion should be moved to the now-relocated page.

He died of cancer in a hospital in the U.K. while still working on his book. However, and this may be the story you are thinking of, a few months before his death he was visiting Mexico with a friend who was related to either a Mexican politician, or a U.S. diplomat in Mexico. The two of them were caught in a botched kidnap attempt, Evans was shot but survived, and the friend, I believe, died.
