Let's start a text about self-harm to breasts and sexual organs in http://www.wikisource.org[edit]

Well, I'm afraid we will have to do some original research to improve this article. Wikipedia.org is not the place for original research, but on http://www.wikisource.org original research is absolutely no problem. So I would suggest to move an early version of this article (still with my points of view and my midget original research) to http://www.wikisource.org . I'm not familiar with http://www.wikisource.org so I will probably move the article in about a week. Then I will also rewrite it for http://www.wikisource.org so that it is easy to add points of view and original research by people. (forgot to sign, this was written by me [user:laudaka] about in August 2004.)

REAL HITS on the internet for this subject (till now)[edit]

Reassuring the author of this page[edit]

Good that you started this page, I'm sure it will help someone in future. --gracefool

  • Thanks for the reassurement gracefool! Really kind of you to think of my feelings. I guess it will help someone in the future. Unfortunately it didn't help me :-( it caused me to really seriously self-harm for months so that's why I've been so long away. For anyone working on this article and having the problem that it evokes too strong feelings: Talk about it with your counsellor (which of course I didn't do unfortunately.) And feel free to quit working at the article any time. Leave a message here too say you can't continue working at the article only if that makes you feel better. What doesn't belong in the article space (yet)[edit]

I have removed the original research and article discussion to here. Put it back in when there is a reference. Also, please add incomplete/in progress sections to either this page or a temporary page in the user namespace. – PlatinumX 03:19, 14 Jul 2004 (UTC)

In hospital self-harmers of breasts and sexual organs virtually always get a very chilly welcome

Is there any primary source to back this up? I am not removing it, but please cite a source.

Although about 10 percent of the people self-harming have at least once self-harmed their breasts and/or sexual organs, it is rarely admitted. (The 10 percent is based on original research by me, we have to find sources giving a better estimate that we can use as reference)

This whole paragraph is terribly POV, I will try to find data for writing an NPOV version of this paragraph. I hope other people will help me with finding data with different POV's. Also one thing is probably easy to prove (the sentence about appreciating to be asked about self-harm in the intake).

So it seems a sensible thing to do that when a ward knows that a patient self-harms, as soon as there is a start of trust in the patient-ward relationship the ward should ask gently to the patient whether she harms her breasts and/or sexual organs. This should never be postponed more than two months. The question can be asked at the intake appointment if the intaker is confident enough the question will help the patient, and not scare her. Note that although intake questions are never meant to help a patient they might do so. Questions about self-harm in intakes are known to help patients.

  • Oh my god, it's indeed terribly with a Point Of View as I wrote. Platinum, I'm not able to reply to your message any more extensive than by saying that I will reply extensively later. Right now I've had enough of the dreadful feelings this subject invokes in me. I'm really sorry it took me so long to reply, and even now I'm only saying I will adress the POV problems later. Cleanup Tag[edit]

I took the liberty of including a cleanup tag owing to how unintelligible a lot of this writing is. The punctuation here is at best minimal; and the flow is horrendously stilted from anyone's perspective. Not only is the voice poor, there certainly is a dearth of specific information. Acceptable encyclopaedia entries don't contain generalisations. They outline concisely a phenomenon, give examples, and then associate it with others. If the author(s) of this page intend(s) on it remaining at its present location, several things will have to occur. They should:

  • Complete some research on the topic
  • Decide what justifies the existence of this page
  • Proceed to rewrite it as an informative piece (ephemeral and robust)

As it stands, I see no reason why the information presented here could not appear on the self-harm page. This all could effectively be summarised and subsumed by the latter. Earthliberator 05:15, 26 Dec 2004 (UTC)
