The article Judeo-Marathi has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This page has had a citations request since 2020. It does not seem that there are any scholarly sources that could attest to the existence of this language variety. On the contrary, Rubin & Kahn (2020) in Jewish Languages from A to Z say "there is no evidence that the Marathi used by Jews was any different from that of their non-Jewish neighbors." This has also been claimed by a number of Marathi-speaking editors on the article's talk page.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Relationship between Ein Sof and Sephiroth[edit]

Hi Gringo - I have tired to answer the question you left on the Ein Sof page ...let me know if I failed in my attempt...lol

Let me see if I can try to explain, it might need more clarification. (I am not an expert most of what I know is from Karen Armstrong's book, A History of God) I see the relationship as this:

Ein Sof a name for God The 10 Sephiroth are ways in which God has shown himself to humanity.

Much like each of us has a gender, race, religion, etc.

The Sephiroth are a way in which we "see" or understand God.

Does this make sense? Wjbentley 19:54, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if it makes sense or not, I'll have to do some research. From what I understand, God and the physical universe interact with each other through the Sephiroth. Gringo300 21:04, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects[edit]

Germanic languages[edit]

Hi Gringo300, it is normal that you find this complicated, it is.

  • Concerning the distinction between language and dialect, you can say that English and German are different languages, because Americans and Germans don't understand each other without having learnt each others' languages. However, if you go back a thousand years to the Viking Age, an Anglo-Saxon, a Saxon (German) and a Dane did not have such problems. They may have had less trouble understanding each other than some English speakers of today. If you go 2000 years back the Germanic languages were even more similar, perhaps comparable to American dialects of today. These old Germanic dialects have very very slowly turned into different languages.
  • Concerning the possible existence of a Proto-Germanic people, they might very well have existed. However, ethnicities is a complicated matter and we'll never know if they once felt like a single tribe , or if they only understood themselves as a number of related tribes.--Wiglaf 11:28, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi Gringo300. I was very interested to see your note on Wiglaf's page that you are wanting to find out about the prehistory of English. I have just been working on a couple of articles which might help you. You can help me by looking at these and telling me if they are understandable as they are and whether they meet your needs; because you are probably the kind of person they are written for. You will find these at: Germanic weak verb, West Germanic strong verb, Ablaut and Umlaut. I hope you enjoy these. Please give me your feedback. --Doric Loon 14:06, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Trinidad Spanish[edit]

(in response to your question at Talk:Trinidad)
See Sylvia Moodie-Kublalsingh's book, if you can get your hands on it (the reference is at Cocoa Panyol). Spanish was spoken in Trinidad from the 1500s until the middle of the 20th century, and there are still some speakers of Trinidadian Spanish (as opposed to Venezuelans resident in Trinidad who, of course, speak Spanish). There has always been so much contact between the Trinidadian Spanish community and Venezuela that I doubt it ever deviated into a separate dialect, but that's just speculation on my part. Judæo-Marathi[edit]

hahaha. Thanks. I got a hearty laugh out of that. I don't have much time right now to work on it, but I'll add a little bit that might get you going a little further. :-) Tomer TALK 07:43, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

Using horizontal rules[edit]

In talk pages could you please refrain from using ---- or any other number of connected hyphens to separate what you wish to be new discussion sections? All that does is put a line above your comments, and leads to disjointed/unrelated discussion in misnamed sections. I just renamed your latest addition to Talk:Ethiopia in what I guess is as accurate a section name as possible. It makes the talk page much easier to navigate, and makes editing a single section much less unweildy. The propery way to start a new section is == New Section Name ==, which if you look into my alteration, you'll see, is what I did. Thanks for your consideration for those of us trying to work with you. Tomer TALK 09:51, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

Gringo,

I replied to your question on Talk:Mulao. ---Hottentot

Hi. Please have a look at WP:MUSIC and add some info to this article that shows the band fills at least one of these criteria (preferably not just the "two albums with a label" clause). Also, perhaps link to the band's entry on allmusic. Thanks. Harro5 June 30, 2005 08:43 (UTC)

Comments[edit]

First of all, thanks for fixing up a few talk pages. It's a good idea to reorganize them by adding section headings. But I came here with a question: I often come across talk pages of language articles where you are requesting more information on the speakers of the language. It is indeed a good idea to include this in articles. Have you considered giving it a try yourself? It's very educating to pick up some books from libraries and to expand articles with information that you think is needed. Cheers, — mark 13:51, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Turkana language[edit]

at Talk:Turkana language, you wrote:

I'd like to learn more about the Turkana language.
I've been studying the Swahili, Xhosa, and Zulu languages for a while now, and i can't honestly say i'm anywhere near fluent in any of them.
Gringo300 06:03, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you could try Dimmendaals (1983) 'The Turkana language' if you're serious about it. Many libraries have it and it is for sale on Amazon (very expensive, though). As for Swahili, Xhosa and Zulu, you might want to try one language at a time. I would say Swahili is the easiest of the three for a native speaker of English (which I assume you are). — mark 11:14, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[edit]

Hi Gringo, I noticed you added top-level categories like Category:Nilo-Saharan languages and Category:Ethnic groups to some articles that already were categorized. However, if you look at those categories, you will see that they contain subcategories, and each article that is placed in such a subcategory will be automatically contained in the top-level category. For example, Mbum language, which you categorized as a Niger-Congo language, is already a member of the Adamawa-Ubangi category, which itself is in the end a member of Category:Niger-Congo languages. In short, I have reverted your addition because it is not a good idea to categorize articles twice. You can read more about our categorization system at Wikipedia:Category. Cheers, — mark 11:11, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, you won't find very much. Our knowledge of the Khazar language is frightfully limited. The best source I can recommend to you is Khazar Studies by Peter Golden. Sources for Scott Brown (bassist)[edit]

Hello, good work on Scott Brown (bassist), and thanks for the contribution. However, you forgot to add any references to the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. What websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to Scott Brown (bassist)? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? Thank you very much. - SimonP 04:07, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A little bit is mentioned about him in the main Danger Danger wikipedia article, and he's mentioned some at www.dangerdanger.com. If I remember right, he's mentioned in the liner notes of Danger Danger's Dawn album, but I don't know where my copy of it is off the top of my head. Probably packed up in a box along with other CD's. I might be moving fairly soon. Gringo300 05:11, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The actual language of Balears is Catalan language, used in the Balearic variants. If you follow the links, you will see how there are important differences between the islands. In fact, there are also a lot of different variants between zones in Mallorca, (that should be added in Balearic article, (to my TODO list)) even between towns separated only 4km! Anyway, all catalan speakers in Balears understand perfectly each other, as well as most catalan speakers from outside Balears.
Although Spanish is not the autoctonous language of Balears, it's used by a significant part of the population, mainly immigrants from other zones of Spain (which represent a large portion of Balears population, though). So, there's not an autoctonous spanish dialect.

A tag has been placed on Fraidy Cat (band), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please write {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Looks like I have been too fast with the deletion. The band appears to meet the WP:MUSIC guidelines; namely, it "contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable; note that it is often most appropriate to use redirects in place of articles on side projects, early bands and such"; I have restored the article. Deletion[edit]

Hi. It was deleted for a lack of content; it wasn't more than an introductory sentence and a brief discography. A good stub needs to have a lot more info. Where was he born? Who has he played with? Any solo work? Any major tours? Interesting biographical info? Influences? There are a lot of things that you can add. - Lucky 6.9 00:06, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto that new article on Johnny Kreiss. Sounds notable, but it's up to you to establish that. I won't delete it, but another admin might if it isn't expanded beyond a declarative/opening statement. - Lucky 6.9 00:09, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Will Effertz[edit]

The page doesn't seem to suggest that he's done anything notable! It notes that he has 'played with' Dad's Porno Mag as an occaisional member; DPM themselves I think only scrape into notability based upon our guidelines for bands and musicians. It also notes again that he has 'played with' Gilby Clarke. To me, these phrases and accomplishments suggest that he is a touring guitarist or session musician, who has never been a permenant member of these acts.

As I say, our guidlines are at WP:MUSIC. I think that he fails to fulfill any of these. --Robdurbar 09:40, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well if he does have any additional achievments that make him notbale, then clearly feel free to restore the article. At the moment, though, there's no obvious reason why he should receive a place in an encyclopedia. --Robdurbar 16:19, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Category 'What is this?'[edit]

I removed your Flea edit adding a category tag for What is this? because catagories created for bands that only contain the band members and band name is that it NOT USEFUL per WP:CAT Wikipedia's Guidelines for Catagories, specifically Guide line number 2. The band members and band name already have links that associate them together, and someone like Micheal, who has a history of playing with many bands could be saturated with categories that contain nothing more than a list of Band members from other bands and has no helpful use to a reader who is not familiar with the artist and is trying to find information, which is what Wikipedia is all about. I have been reading Fijian language articles and have been thinking about the possibility of merging them what I was considering is East Fijian languages, West Fijian languages and related dialects of the Fijian Language I think should be merged with the Article Fijian Languages as really they discuss variations of the same topic and these other Language articles on the Fijian language are just small stubs and perhaps the Fijian language article should be changed to just "Language in Fiji" and cover all related languages in the Fiji Islands. again this is just a thought and I could be way off here but your advice, feedback and thoughts on this matter would be really appreciated. Legacy Demo[edit]

There is nothing said on the page explaining why the Demo album is notable. Every band has a Demo, right? Most of the time demos pass into obscurity. If you feel differently, all you have to do is remove the proposed deletion tag, and (if you really care), find a citation saying something about the demo. Speedy deletion of Mongolic American[edit]

A tag has been placed on Mongolic American, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Bodish and Bodic[edit]

My own understanding of these terms is that Bodic includes what are generally called Tibetan dialects (Balti, Khams, Lhasa, etc.) and Bodish then also includes things like Bumthan, Tshangla, and Monpa which are not decended from Old Tibetan, but are closer to the Bodic languages than they are to other Tibeto-Burman languages. I see you have been relabeling some articles, but I cannot see under what premise you are doing this. Tibetologist (talk) 19:25, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spreading the meme since August 2006

The Sociology WikiProject is conducting a roll call (or min-census, if you prefer). More then five years down the road, we have over 50 members, but we don't know how many of them are still active in the sociology area. If you are or want to become once again an active contributor to the sociology content on Wikipedia, please move your name from the inactive to the active list on our roll call (or add yourself to the list if you haven't joined yet!).

In other news, we have reactivated the newsletter :) At least, for this announcement. We also have a new, automated to do listing, an active tag and assess project (which has identified about 1,800 sociology articles on Wikipedia, and assessed about 1,3000 of them), and three new userboxes for your self-identification pleasure :) On a final note, I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Sociology page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions.

Scott Griffin[edit]

I noticed you are one of the main contributors to the Scott Griffin and added a disbute tag about wither or not he was or wasn't the bassist for L.A. Guns. Well it was confirmed through a few sites that he had indeed left the group and was replaced by Kenny Kweens (ive added the sources). If you look on the Phil Lewis L.A. Guns website (and forum) this is further confirmation.

Also I cleaned up the page and, as far as I can tell, there will be no new L.A. Guns album for the foreseeable future, not from the Phil Lewis fronted version anyway. Unsourced additions and rumours shouldnt be added. Hope this clears things up. HrZ (talk) 23:26, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for updating all the TGF and Live articles. I share your frustration at the lack of a band photo. There's a really big US tour coming up so I'll keep an eye on Flickr. Sadly most people upload pix as "all rights reserved" even though they probably wouldn't mind the photo being used on wikipedia. Iangurteen (talk) 08:04, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi and thanks for your continued updates to The Gracious Few. I've tried to find an answer to the "template" question without success, so I've raised a question at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Musicians, hopefully someone will answer. While I'm thinking of it, I'm not sure that The Kings Royal and The Hiwatts are actually associated acts for TGF (although they may be for Candlebox). Have a look at the "Associated Acts" section (section 4.18) at Template:Infobox musical artist and see what you think. Iangurteen (talk) 07:52, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Sean Hennesy has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. WikiProject Sociology membership[edit]

You are listed in the Category:Wikipedians interested in sociology, probably due to the use of "This user is interested in sociology" userbox, but you have not added yourself to our official member list for WikiProject Sociology. This prevent you from, among other things, receiving our sociology newsletter, as that member list acts as our newsletter mailing list (you can find the latest issue of our sociology newsletter here). You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Pete Bonas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about it should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you can assert the notability of the subject, contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and give your reasons on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

See the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. SteveBaker (talk) 09:58, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Girl (band) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

only cites two sources, one of which is a dead link and the other of which is a band member's myspace page that hasn't been updated in a year. Can't find anything about this band on Google, some of their albums are available used on Amazon but that's about it. Not sure the band is notable, even if the people in it eventually did become notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Retserrof84 (talk) 19:18, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RE: BulletBoys[edit]

The revert was justified. You failed to provide a source (per WP:V) for the album and, per WP:BURDEN, I'm well within my right to remove it. The burden is on you, the editor adding the information, to provide a source rather than telling me that there is "PLENTY of documentation". If there is plenty of documentation, sourcing the album when asked shouldn't have been a problem. Regards. HrZ (talk) 09:49, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, see Wikipedia:CITET#Using the same footnote multiple times for using the same source more than once. Also, comments like you made here are unnecessary. If you had provided those sources in the first place, the album wouldn't have been removed. HrZ (talk) 22:42, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. The article Mother Head's Family Reunion has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NMUSIC (no evidence that the album charted etc.) and GNG due to a lack of significant coverage in independent reliable sources. AllMusic proves that the album exists, but did not review it. Notability is not inherited from the artist (who is notable per WP:NMUSIC).
