reply to above: I am not sure how to improve the formatting of this item, but have tidied it up as best I am able, at this time, the content is by mine own hand, and draws on several historical sources, that may be commonly available. I am seeking to develop a better understanding of the history of the lords Sutton of Dudley, and appreciate any improvements Wikipedians have to offer on this subject.

I've moved this article here (from "5th Baron Dudley") after referring to the article, Baron Dudley, which says that the 5th Baron Dudley was called "Edward". The dates for the man in this article are those of the 1st Baron. However, I am puzzled as to who inherited the title, as there don't seem to be any children or grandchildren with the right name. Succession etc[edit]

I have removed a reference to Dudley as an MP, because the reference was to him as a baron by writ, not as a member of the house of commons. This was an obsolete method of creating peers, by summoning an individual to attned the House of Lords. It was held to create a hereditary peerage, descending through the female line to the heir general, unlike the more usual creation by patent where it descends to the named class of heir, usually the heir male (unless there is a specila remainder). This carried the peerage into the Ward family then Smith and now Wallace. There is the further complication that the family in practice used the surname Dudley rather than Sutton. Earl of Arundel[edit]

There may be differing opinions on how to number the FitzAlan Earls of Arundel, as indicated in the article about them.

But the Earl of Arundel referred to in this article is found at John FitzAlan, 13th Earl of Arundel which should be evident by their shared content. AvorNorn (talk) 19:13, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Constable of the Tower[edit]

I don't remember when and where I read this, but it appears Dudley was constable of the Tower of London on 21 May 1471. Since Henry VI very likely died that night, can we assume that Dudley was involved in his murder ? --Edouard2 (talk) 17:00, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
