There was talk about adding a restaurant to the top of the Sunsphere. I'm not sure if they ever did make one, or if it was just an idea. Also, the bottom part is an observation deck which is still open to the public.

Most such towers in Europe and Canada (and the Space Needle in Seattle) have one, but I don't know as East Tennesseans would pay those type prices for a view of Knoxville.

Actually the observation deck reopened only briefly around 1999 or so, and has been closed again for at least five years. It did have a restaurant on top during the Worlds Fair, but the latest attempt to re-open one seems to have stalled out. Archarin 03:53, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sunsphere "religion"[edit]

The Church of the Giant Golden Microphone is no joke. The Sunsphere Cult will live on forever, just wait. Keep waiting. OK, stop.

Obviously this is a joke. My question is, I suppose, is it a good and big enough joke to be encyclopedic? Rlquall 23:58, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Well, I probably would not have put it in, but I enjoyed it anyway. I think it should stay. RivGuySC 03:28, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

That sounds like the news report of monsters attacking Knoxville and turning the Sunsphere into a game of tee ball. News straight from The Onion. 12.41.204.3 (talk) 18:56, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

8 Levels?[edit]

According to the engineering plans posted here http://www.sunsphere.info/SchematicPlans.asp. The sphere only has 5 levels. I haven't been since 1982 so I can't say for certain, but I thought it was worth mentioning. --MathewBrooks 15:44, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody in Knoxville can comment on this? --MathewBrooks (talk) 14:40, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One cool building

When I saw the Sunsphere for the first time I immediately thought of a van der Graaf generator. Given the proximity of Oak Ridge to Knoxville, was this a factor in the design? 70.67.185.209 (talk) 22:23, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
