Talk:Jim Clark (disambiguation)

We need to disambiguate between James H. Clark, founder of Netscape and SGI, James Clark of XML fame, James Clark of Formula One fame and James Clark the aircraft company.

Lots of Jim Clarks now listed, pointing to their respective pages. I couldn't find out anything about "James Clark the aircraft company", perhaps that belongs on James Clark. Hotlorp 15:05 Feb 11, 2003 (UTC)

Move proposal[edit]

Since Jim Clark (racing driver) is the only Wikipedia article, and all of the "What links here" for Jim Clark are for the racing driver, I propose that Jim Clark (racing driver) be moved to Jim Clark and Jim Clark (disambiguation) be created.

Comment, I agree with User:RussBlau's modifcation below, redirect. --Commander Keane 05:15, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

merge Jim and James[edit]

Is there any reason not to merge the Jim and James disambiguation pages? You have to check both pages anyway since Jim and James are interchangeable names. Stbalbach 17:54, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There are some people (namely Jim Clark (racing driver)) who are known exclusively by "Jim" and never "James". About the merging, I don't know.--Commander Keane 11:29, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Jim is technically short for James, but a lot of James are more popularly known as Jim. Some people might not realize that, come to the Jim page, and not see it. That is the problem. Having Jim redirect would solve the problem with the race car driver. Stbalbach 14:19, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
There is allready a problem related to this. There is now a duplicate entry for "Jim Clark" and "James Clark", the same guy who founded Netscape. I suspect this could lead an editor to create a duplicate article because they didnt think to check the James entry. I really do think these articles need to be merged to avoid bigger problems in the future, even if some people dont always go by the name. You can seperate the list in the disambig page between those that are Jim's and James. Stbalbach 14:26, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The Netscape issue was well spotted, duplication can be messy, so a single dab with Jim and James section seems to be the way to go. --Commander Keane 15:01, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Complete agreement - redirect "Jim" to "James", and have one nice, big disambig. More useful that way. -- BD2412 talk 20:00, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

... Jim Clark redirects to Jim Clark (racing driver)? Durr?[edit]

What? We have Jim Clark at Jim Clark (racing driver) and have Jim Clark redirect to there?!? I suddenly have a terrible headache. Move Jim Clark (racing driver) to Jim Clark and simply remove the "Jim Clark redirects here" from the disambiguation notice at the top. It's not like we have "Plato" redirect to "Plato (philosopher)" and then put at the top "Plato redirects here. For other uses, see Plato (disambiguation)".
