Image for secant method[edit]

Hi. There seems to be a problem with the image Image:Secant_method_example_code_result.svg that you created. The blue lines should be secant lines, that is, they should go through two points of graph (the red curve). However, they don't. It looks like there is an error in the coefficients that you used to draw these lines. For the moment, I put the old image, Image:Secantmethod_jaredwf.png, back. There you see what the line in the last iteration should look like; it touches the graph at the root. It would be great if you could correct your SVG image, as I think it's very useful to have the secant lines at the earlier iterations. -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 14:26, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, those lines have the wrong gradient. I'll try to fix it. --Qef (talk) 16:44, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, how's that? I think I have the gradients right now (I was calculating x/y instead of y/x). --Qef (talk) 17:07, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good now. Thanks for the image. I put it back in the article. -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 17:29, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hypercube graphs[edit]

Hi Geoff!

Regarding User:Qef/Orthographic_hypercube_diagrams, I figured out the solution for the regular polygon perimeter skew orthogonal projections for the hypercubes, see results: File:Hypercube petrie polygons.png. I can tell you how. Maybe you could make a second set of graphs in SVG? The advantage of my graphs over the existing (regular) ones (and your SVG versions) is coloring vertices by overlap frequency. I tested up to 16-cube, edges get overwhelming, although maybe it would be better in SVG with thin/light antialiasing edges.

What do you think? Do you have some time to try some more? (I also want to do the demihypercube family, same as hypercubes, but alternate vertices are deleted) Tom Ruen (talk) 21:23, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I have a request for you: could you please extend the diagrams over 10-cube? It seems that the color of the dots form a circular pattern around the center point of the diagram, it would be educational if the overall pattern (when lim n -> infinity) would be visualized.

While I'm at it, here's another request: Could you also produce a same kind of series for all the platonic solids and beyond?

The stellation diagram of dodecahedron also looks interesting too. I bet the n-dimensional extensions of it are just iterations of this symmetry exhibiting the golden ratio. If so, showing this would too be educational. Probios (talk) 19:38, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
