I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to call this page. 'Pro-Life Amendment' sounds as though I am endorsing a 'pro-life' analysis. I am absolutely refusing to take sides on the abortion debate here. But 'Abortion Amendment' is a name that has never been used by any side in the argument. so-called 'Pro-Life Amendment sounds as though I am questioning the title, which again is POV. The official name was the '8th Amendment to the Constitution Act' but that's a mouthful that few use, even fewer would recognise and I'm sure other states have '8th Amendments' too.

The term 'Pro-Life Amendment' is the most widely used name, even if used sarcastically by 'pro-choice' campaigners, as when judicially reviewed, the Amendment was judged to allow abortion in judicially defined areas, an irony they milked with pleasure. As 'Pro-Life Amendment' is the one term that all sides would intinctively recognise (even if everyone mightn't agree with the title), and as a result they know exactly what this page is referring to, it is the only option I can come up with.

So sorry, if anyone has hit the roof over the title and think it is POV, there ain't another short title that would immediately be recognised as referring to the 1983 amendment that I can find. I've even asked friends on both sides of the argument can they come up with something else, and they can't. JTD 03:09 Jan 6, 2003 (UTC)

I'm working on merging this with the article Eighth_Amendment_of_the_Constitution_of_Ireland Nik42 03:38, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)
