Images[edit]

Please consider uploading public domain images to Commons, from which they can be used on any of the Wikipedias. Do you need some help doing so? David.Monniaux 22:03, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Also, consider using shorter filenames and filing a description on the page for the rest of the stuff. David.Monniaux 22:04, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Definately consider shorter filenames, that or does your browser support tab completion or something? ;-) Kim Bruning 22:05, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Oh but like, before folks forget to mention: thank you very much for uploading images in the first place of course! :-) Kim Bruning 11:53, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for finding a picture for "Trial by combat!" -- Smerdis of Tlön 18:44, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Hi. I've noticed you create a few pages this afternoon which you've cut and pasted from other sources (uncredited). Whilst it is useful to have new content it really helps Wikipedia do its job properly if they are 'wikified' with appropriate links so that users can click between relevant articles. Similarly, there was already an article on the Post Office and you should always check first before creating new articles so that you can add content to the existing location rather than create something that might duplicate the work of others. In this case I've placed a redirect to the existing article as your page title was also mis-formatted. Welcome! --Vamp:Willow 16:50, 25 Dec 2004 (UTC)

"The Mirror of Literature, Amusement, and Instruction"[edit]

You can add text from out of copyright sources, but please note the original source and make sure the material is useful, encyclopedic, and NPOV. Gamaliel 19:52, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The assertions of a lot of these nineteenth century antiquarians whose works you draw on need to be taken with a pinch of salt. I have reverted your edits to Stone circle as the original scholarship is not sound. adamsan 19:16, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
You have lifted full paragraphs from Gutenberg sources into [[Thomas Moore], Blackheath, London, Signature, Christmas, Naples without attribution. You also leave all of your edits as "minor" and leave no edit summaries. Additionally, your comments in the Wikipedia talk:Long term abuse/Willy on Wheels page are unconstructive. All of these indicate trolling to me. I will be reverting your edits that look like copyvio right now. You can dispute this on their respective talk pages. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 18:41, Mar 14, 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for your many contributions to articles large and small. I notice that you have added information from The Nuttall Encyclopaedia to many articles. Maybe it would be good to add a (boilerplate?) notice in the reference section of articles you change in this way, especially the small ones where the change is most of the article. --68.192.192.182 04:29, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Body, Cognition and Senses[edit]

Re: your edit summary concerning my removal of BCS at CSB. I maybe should've taken it to Talk but I did that earlier. As for your comparison of Xed and EntmOT, I should've said that EntmootsOfTrolls is hard banned (see User:EntmootsOfTrolls/ban) for making death threats, among other things, whereas Xed is banned for three months due to uncivility. But that's not the most important thing; the crucial difference is that BCS is an inactive one-man project, whereas CSB has had a number of active participants from the very beginning (including Jmabel, Filiocht, Trilobite, Solitude, and ChrisG cf. User:Xed/CROSSBOW). So I still don't see the use of listing it at 'similar projects'.

Don't get me wrong — I'm actually quite intrigued by the ideas behind BCS. It's just that I don't think that this one-man project is ever going to work; it would require Wikipedia being turned upside down and that's just impossible to accomplish. My view on BCS is that it is a brave attempt to part with the current paradigm/worldview — an attempt however which is doomed to fail precisely because of the current paradigm/worldview of 99% of Wikipedia's contributors. mark 20:34, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

So, what are your reasons to list this particular project on 'Similar projects' at Countering Systemic Bias? mark 00:51, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hello, Recycling Troll, welcome back. Have fun stalking me. RickK 22:56, Mar 14, 2005 (UTC)

Minor edits[edit]

You've been marking some of your edits as minor lately that aren't e.g. [1] [2] Generally the minor edit button is for correcting spellings, or formatting etc. Adding, removing information, should not be marked as minor. Cheers Theresa Knott (ask the rotten) 08:20, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Interwikis[edit]

Hello Pwqn, please make sure that the interwikis work. In some of your edits, the links to for example the french wiki didn't work anymore after your edits. Regards. --Alcidebava 13:00, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hell Mary Hill[edit]

Hi! I was looking through the Sheffield page and I found your article on Hell Mary Hill. Can you tell me more about this place? I lived in Sheffield for over twenty years and have studied the local history and geography and I have never heard of it? Thanks, JeremyA 05:06, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

De-adminship[edit]

I reverted your change because the prior wording was more accurate. I also note that your edit summary was misleading. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 18:43, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for removing the pseudoscience category from the Holistic Science page. I'm also trying to garner support for removing the "merge with holism" tag. I think the case for removing it is clear-cut: holism can be pursued with no regard for science whatsoever AND a page on the application of holism to science is justified. Obviously, the page still needs a lot of work, but that has no bearing on the validity of the article's existence separate from Holism. Until now, however, there are only two of us working on the page, i.e. me and one skeptic who is insisting that the merge tag s/he put in be kept. Any contribution you can make to the Holistic science talk page in favor of removing the merge tag will be appreciated. The same applies for any improvements you can make to the page itself! --Smithfarm 11:10, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Alban's death date[edit]

Do you think you could give a reference for the date of Alban's death? There seem to be several conflicting sources on the subject, and previously dates have been deleted from the article as unsubstantiated. (Hence the rather flowery "The date of the execution is best left to the venerable Bede" quote in the article currently.) - MykReeve 22:24, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Edit summary[edit]

Hello. Please remember to always provide an edit summary. Thanks and happy edits. Hyacinth 01:14, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Geo-stubs[edit]

Hi Pwqn - I see you've been creating several stubs, and labelling them with their correctstub categories (good work!). Many countries now have their own geo-stub categories, almost all in the form Countryname-geo-stub (e.g., Italy-geo-stub). It'd help even more if you could try the more specialist stub notice (test it with preview) rather than the generic geo-stub. Thanks! Grutness|hello? 00:51, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Re: your edit to the page on Dec 27 2004, I notice that you've inserted many paragraphs from another source (presumably one whose copyright has expired). Could you include a reference for this text? Thanks. --Spudtater 16:26, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Byron revert[edit]

Sorry about that. I noticed the text was pasted from an external source, Googled, and mistakenly thought it was from something still in copyright. Have re-reverted now. --Calair 23:05, 23 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

1911?[edit]

I notice that you seem to be making a number of edits related to the 1911 EB categories and and templates. I'm not entirely sure what you're attempting to accomplish (animism and animal worship are two examples), but if you wouldn't mind enlightening me, I am curious. ;) --Dante Alighieri | Talk 18:53, May 25, 2005 (UTC)

Chateau-Gaillard image[edit]

I'd just like to notify you that I marked your image, "Present State of the Feudal Castle of Chateau Gaillard aux Andelys which was considered one of the strongest Castles of France in the Middle Ages and was rebuilt in the Twelfth Century by Richard Coeur de Lion.png" for deletion. It's name is obviously too long and unweildy, so I made a copy of it, "Château-Gaillard.png" and that is now the image used on the Château-Gaillard site.

It's an albumcover - wikipedia thinks they're fair use. I've retagged it. You did not get around to adding it to WP:PUI - if you at all unhappy, please do list it there and put the PUI notice back on it. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk)

Nuttall tag[edit]

I came across a couple of entries that you seem to have copied from Nuttall. If you are doing this as part of Wikipedia:Nuttall Encyclopedia topics, welcome to the project. If so, could you add the {{Nuttall}} tag to the articles? Thanks. David Brooks 23:14, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC) ... also, if you are doing this, please create redirects with the capitalization style of the original list (e.g. create Apocalyptic Writings -> Apocalyptic writings). Thanks.

Pwqn, your recent edits to Government of Australia are cause for concern. I request that you attend to the article's talk page and clarify your intentions and, most importantly, motivations. I am not, at this stage, accussing you of anything, but you must understand that the issue of Australia's head of state is particularly emotional following the obstructionism of a particular user. I advise you review the archives of the linked talk-page to gain perspective. Thanks, -- Cyberjunkie TALK 9 July 2005 16:24 (UTC)

I have replied at Talk:Government of Australia. Pwqn 9 July 2005 18:13 (UTC)

There's been a bit of a tempest surrounding your contributions to Government of Australia. I would strongly encourage you to review the Talk page archives associated with that article; because of the recent Skyring debacle editors and admins are very sensitive about the issue of Australia's head of state. Some of our editors may be touchier than usual on the issue, and I urge you edit with the utmost care and restraint. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 02:42, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pylos[edit]

You made some contributions to Pylos a while back that look like they came from some other source. Was it the 1911 EB, or somewhere else? Thanks. Gwimpey 22:48, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It is not the 1911 EB, which I have in front of me.... It does sound 19th century, but we really ought to know what the source is! --Macrakis 20:17, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted most of the article. Was that an editing accident? David Brooks 17:04, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

1911 redux[edit]

Pwqn,
I see you're adding lots of material from {{1911}}. While I applaud your efforts to improve wikipedia, I'm concerned at the effect this has had on the quality of some articles. If we look at Antichrist, for example, the article was clearly of higher editorial standard prior to the addition of this material. This is not to say that there was no information added, but we also have a duty of care in ensuring that material is well presented.
brenneman(t)(c) 23:40, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Could you make your edits again? They were too cryptic to decode. Thank you. --Wetman 15:44, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I saw you had began the article Albrizzi and I think you spelled it in a wrong way, since an article about the same family has been created by someone with the name Albizzi. I checked in an encycolpaedia i have at home and counted the number of google hits for "albrizzi medici" and the other spelling and it seems the name is albizzi. That's why I moved the content of your article into that of the other one. No big deal but I wanted to let you know about this, if you have comments or else, tell me. Cheers, Julien Tuerlinckx 16:07, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

1911 texts[edit]

Please be careful about adding text from the 1991 Britannica. For instance, the additions you made to Ahmed Urabi were highly POV, and largely duplicated material already in the article. Also please make sure to format all additions to standard Wikipedia style. - SimonP 17:10, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

1911 additions[edit]

Hi - Ive noticed youve been adding a lot of 1911 material. There are Wikipedia guidelines about this, you cant just add raw text with wikilinks and section breaks. You also have to research the material to make sure it is still accurate, and you have to re-write it to modern standards. Otherwise you are actually making article worse, adding inaccurate information, difficult to read grammar, and perhaps worse of all, highly POV edits. Please see the Wikipedia guidelines about adding 1911 text. In general, it is usually best to reference 1911 articles in the References section as an external link. If none exists, or if you want to recreate the entire article, Wikisource is a good place. Stbalbach 17:45, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, please cease doing this. You totally messed up Apocrypha six months ago by stripping the article bare and then just copy-pasting the 1911 article into what remained. Rarr 02:09, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greek etymological information[edit]

I notice youve been adding a lot of Greek etymological information to the start of articles. I take it this is from EB1911. In the 19th century it was common educational practice to learn Greek, and so this information was valuable to scholars of the time. Today, very few people know or need to know Greek, and those specialized few that do, dont need the etymological information in a general purpose encyclopedia. There really is no good reason to have it on Wikipedia, it's an archaic artifact. Stbalbach 05:23, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Henry Purcell image[edit]

I have put the image you uploaded image:Henry Purcell.jpg up for deletion, because I put it on the commons so that it would not trump the image already there with the same name (commons:image:Henry Purcell.jpg). If there are two images of the same name, one on commons and one on Wikipedia, the Wikipedia one automatically is inserted in any article, so the only way I know how to use the image I want on the commons is to move your image to commons under a different name and delete the one here. Thanks for the great picture, though. Makemi 04:41, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas Aquinas[edit]

It looks like you added a great deal of 1911 information to Thomas Aquinas on 6 November 2005. Unfortunately, some of the information is apparently blatantly inaccurate: see Talk:Thomas_Aquinas#King Louis VIII. We would greatly appreciate your attention to this inaccuracy. Thanks ... A tag has been placed on Alain de l'Isle, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, article #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. (aeropagitica) 21:21, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Don José Alvarez[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Don José Alvarez, by Wingsandsword (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Don José Alvarez seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Don José Alvarez, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Don José Alvarez itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 04:20, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Gaspar Aquila, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Speedy deletion of Ainos[edit]

A tag has been placed on Ainos requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. (GameShowKid)--(talk)--(evidence)-- 04:47, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Georg Friedrich Haendel.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Better source request for some of your uploads[edit]

Thanks for your uploads to Wikipedia. There is an issue with some of them, specifically:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the images because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the images, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image files themselves. Please update the image descriptions with URLs that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you.
