Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Palestine in short

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Article Palestine in short listed on WP:VFD Apr 29 to May 6 2004, consensus was to delete. Discussion:

This user attempted to replace most of the content of the Palestine with this. The user was repeatedly voted down. Instead, they went and created a counter-article called Palestine in short. This should be deleted. --Rei

  • Agreed. Delete. Postdlf 7:20 29 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. Encyclopedias don't have competing articles. RickK 02:57, 30 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. Agree with RickK. SWAdair | Talk 03:20, 30 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • It would be really nice if things settled down over there and we could do a touristy little article called Palestine in Shorts. Denni 05:29, 2004 May 2 (UTC)

Is this the talk page? I want to try to convince you (who is that "you"?) that the page I wrote "Palestine in short" is good, and should stay. Well, there is already a page called "Palestine". It is a fairly good article, but not very good. It is very polemical. It is of course in dispute. I wrote an article that is (I believe...) better, shorter, and methodically better written. I fully understand that the auther of the original article does not want his version erased. But I believe adding the version that I offer will enrich the enciclopedia. Please let it there, or find a better way to include this version, including links to it. And if there are details that do not fit, please help me to fix them, because I am new in Wikipedia, and a bit poor in English, but an expert on Palestine. Yours Mike

Many thanks for contributing Mike, but please understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Encyclopedias do not have differing versions of articles. If you feel Palestine is too long, too biased or otherwise poor, please try to fix it and/or discuss your reasoning at Talk:Palestine. Tuf-Kat 08:05, Apr 29, 2004 (UTC)
To answer your other question, the "you" that must be convinced is anybody who takes an interest in the article. Anyone can edit the Wikipedia, like you and I are doing on this page. Anyone with Internet access can propose an article for deletion. Tuf-Kat 08:07, Apr 29, 2004 (UTC)
Absolutely. In short - don't feel shy, edit the original article! Of course, don't just replace everything; rather, add facts that you think are missing, correct any mistakes you think are there, and provide justifications - and preferably sources and references - for whatever you do. Of course, other editors (me included, probably!) may disagree with what you put, and make their own changes; if something gets especially disputed, that's what Talk:Palestine is for. - Mustafaa 08:12, 29 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hi Mustafaa! I feel that the original article needs not only adding facts, but also erasing too detailed counting of facts, and saying other facts in simpler words. That is why I replaced it by a shorter version, which somebody (you?) erased without trying to see why I believe it is better. My version was written after reading carefully the original one, and because of my feeling it could be done better. Let me make it clear, that everyone of us has his political point of view, and everyone of us tried truly not to let this distort facts. O.K., I will try again to find a combined version (it might take a couple of weeks), but please dont erase it before trying to understand why I think it is better. Mike
