Viktor Pikaizen not included in list of Oistrakh students[edit]

On almost every biography site this is mentioned (and well known), and I have also found some references in the Oistrakh book:

1. Page 119 (https://books.google.com/books?id=rFYZAQAAIAAJ&focus=searchwithinvolume&q=Viktor): "Oistrakh and students Valari klimov, Viktor Pikeisen, Igor"

2. 'Records in Review' page 68: '...golden tone that recalls both Oistrakh, and Viktor Pikaizen, another Oistrakh pupil.'

If anybody has the books they can probably find more references but clearly there is a load of evidence that he is a student of Oistrakh. Samuel-chapkovski (talk) 13:29, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

error in dates[edit]

"In 1936 Oistrakh won second prize at the Wieniawski Competition, losing to the 15-year-old Ginette Neveu." wikipdia

simply not possible if: August 11, 1919 b.Ginette Neveu, 1934 Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition, David Oistrakh 2nd / dates are incorrect somewhere. ercord needs to be cross-checked for accuracy see the wikipedia article for Neveu.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.141.25.8 (talk) 13:28, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It now says 1935, which would be correct, not 1934 or 1936. Editrite! (talk) 03:13, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In the "During WWII" paragraph it says he was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1942, but then in "Distinctions" it says 1943. Which is it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.230.12.189 (talk) 07:20, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Stalin Prize link says 1942, so it has been changed. Editrite! (talk) 03:13, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Let's talk.[edit]

All right. Whoever you are. I have deleted your plagiarist paragraph called "Oistrakh's Controversy" for at least the 3rd time. Another person removed it several times as well. I've told you my reasons why I did in the previous talk comments. But then again, you deleted them and another user's as well which is against Wikipedia policy. We are very tired of having to clean up after you. You want this paragraph in, the charges have to be also found in scholarly texts that can be used as sources. The speculatory account by Erick Friedman is not enough to instate this paragraph in as there are no American or Soviet documents to back it up. Let alone any accounts from Oistrakh or Heifetz's colleagues or superiors. So here's the deal. If you instate the paragraph in again before the Wikipedia Administrators block you and/or put protection on both the Heifetz and Oistrakh articles, you better list your reasons why on this talk page. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. --Vilmosgelb 02:38, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

wasn't he a virtuoso violinist?

Katchaturian[edit]

I thought the Katchaturian concerto was dedicated to Leonid Kogan? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.49.209.51 (talk) 07:40, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

-Nope, it was dedicated to Oistrakh. I have a copy and am finishing it up. I've looked at it enough times to say that it clearly has printed that it was dedicated to Oistrakh. He also wrote a cadenza for it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.211.143.250 (talk) 04:09, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good source?[edit]

http://www.violinist.com/blog/laurie/200810/9159/

This person interviews lots of people, and then posts them on her blog. She's interviewed everyone from Anne Akiko Meyers and Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg to Rachel Barton Pine and Lara St. John. Personally, I trust the site, and it contains lots of great information. The question is this: does Wikipedia trust it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.211.137.231 (talk) 05:22, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chess[edit]

I added a small section about Oistrakh's important contributions to popularizing Chess as a hobby. CessnaMan1989 (talk) 18:56, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Recording of Bach sonatas and partitas for solo violin[edit]

It is a great mystery to me that David Oistrakh, one of the top violinists who ever lived, never recorded Bach's sonatas and partitas for solo violin. Because of the importance of these works I believe the matter deserves some comment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RutiWinkler (talkcontribs) 11:25, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is an Oistrakh recording of one of the fugues for unaccompanied violin but it seems that is all as far as the solo works is concerned. This is puzzling. RutiWinkler (talk) 15:19, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Editing[edit]

Oistrakh edited sheet music, possibly always for Edition Peters (no - he edited Schubert for Wiener Urtexte, but some are of the opinion that his editing was minimal). Is there a biblio or a range of dates during which he did this? This might be a start: - https://www.edition-peters.com/keyword/oistrakh FangoFuficius (talk) 14:57, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox?[edit]

Is there any pushback for adding an infobox? I know that some classical music-related pages are very stingy about adding an infobox, but I don't see why it wouldn't be applicable here. Pacamah (talk) 17:38, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I would not dispute such an addition. Go for it! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 17:50, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Swagg, will make it soon (and props for the super speedy response)! Pacamah (talk) 20:50, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
