Speedrunning

Michiel - I want to ask you about Speedrunning v. Time attack. I think the articles should be merged (time attack -> speedrunning). I don't think the page on time attack has any information that speedrunning doesn't have, it just duplicates a lot. However, I am relatively new to both Wikipedia and speedrunning compared to you, so I didn't want to rain on your parade (you seem to be head honcho in that dept). It was confusing for me to first read about time attack, and then happen to click on speedrunning and get all this extra information... it was almost by accident. So just from the perspective of a new person, I think it would be helpful. What do you think? --Pojo 16:42, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Pojo. For your convenience I'll move this over to your talk page. Also, I'm not really the head honcho of that page, it just happens that I was the last to make a few edits on the article and add a few remarks on the talk page. So no need to worry about that :)

I'm not quite sure if it would be the best decision to merge the articles. Basically, a speedrun is a fast completion of a full (section of a) game. A time attack is a game mode dedicated to doing timed runs of parts of a game. They're two different things if you look at purely the technical side.

Another side of the argument might say that it's not a bad idea to merge the articles since speedrun sites usually don't discern the two (there are time attacks on Speeddemosarchive and Wai Wai).

I'm not sure, however, what the best course of action would be. Maybe we can brainstorm about this for a while.

Also: you can also choose to candidate the page for merging yourself, simply by adding this template: {{mergefrom|Time_attack}} to the Speedrun article and this template: {{mergeto|Speedrun}} to the Time attack article.

You know, I think I will propose the merge. I'll make my case for it publicly and let it be discussed. I can't decide if it would be more appropriate to move the content that Time attack has (the stuff above the Contents box) into the header of Speedrun or to add a new (presumably high-up) paragraph about it. I'm leaning towards including it in the main header since the whole point of the merge is that there really isn't that much to add. What do you think? --Pojo 17:19, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
