Hi[edit]

This page contains my first ever major edits. I hope I've done everything OK. So, if I've snarled something up big time, don't hurt me! --- Lord Tau 18:05, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Abbreviations[edit]

This article is full of abbreviations. It would be nice if there was a legend explaining terms like PP, ES, GF, GA... I would write it myself but I am not sure about the exact meanings of them. --Tone 22:24, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can see your point, but I don't know how to fit it in in an unobtrusive way. The abbreviations mean
  • GP: Games Played
  • W: Wins
  • L: Losses
  • T: Ties
  • GF: Goals For
  • GA: Goals against
  • PTS: Points
  • PP: Scored on a power-play
  • PP2: Scored on a two man power-play
  • SH: Scored while short-handed
  • ES: Scored while even-strength
  • G: Goals
  • A: Assists
  • Pts: Points (Goals + Assists)
  • +/-: Plus/minus
  • PIM: Penalty minues
  • SOG: Shots on Goal -- Jeff3000 00:15, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You forgot EN which means Empty Net Goal. Also, I think most people viewing this page would have an idea of what the abbreviations mean. Lord Tau 07:41, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't thik everyone is so familiar with the hockey rules :-) Anyway, thank you for the explanation, I suppose it is ok if it stays here on the talk page or we can optionally create an article List of hockey expressions and just add a link to the rest of the articles. --Tone 14:38, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is a Category:Ice hockey terminology list already. ColtsScore 21:23, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shots on Goal[edit]

I suggest taking the shots on goal (SOG) out of the scoring leaders. It's hard to find statistic; it only exists on the IIHF website for those with the highest amount of goals, and not necessarily for those with the highest number of points (as those on the table). -- Jeff3000 03:01, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can always look at each game summary :) --curling rock Earl Andrew - talk 03:20, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe, that's a lot of work. Are you willing to do it? -- Jeff3000 03:45, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to do it. I guess so. I originally put shots in, because I use it as a tiebreaker in scoring leaders rankings. --curling rock Earl Andrew - talk 05:38, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just look at team player stats if you want to find the SOG. E.g. link Sarke 06:20, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Horizontal Lines[edit]

I don't understand them, what do they seperate? -- Jeff3000 01:24, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I got it, they divide the periods. But I don't like them asthetically. I would recommend removing them. -- Jeff3000 02:30, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not a big fan of them either, nor do I like the scores next to the goal scorer. --- Lord Tau 07:42, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Would anyone be really opposed to their removal, and the score removal, back to the original style. -- Jeff3000 13:23, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As the one who added them, I can tell you that I was after a similar look to Ice hockey at the 2006 Winter Olympics. In that it is really easy to see the order of the goals, compared to just a list with times. Another idea I had was that at least individual round results could be added. There is a good space for them at the middle, under the score and the arena name. However, this would require changing the template. Taking for example the Finland–Slovenia game, round results would look like this: 5–3 (1-2, 2-1, 2-0). --ZeroOne 13:51, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You have my vote for removal of the horizontal lines, as especially when there is a goal-less period, they do tend to look a bit funny. As for the score next to the goalscorer, I may not like it, but if others want to keep it, then fair enough! --Lord Tau 14:30, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the style at [[Ice hockey at the 2006 Winter Olympics is overly complex. I like the simpler -cleaner style. If someone really wants to know the period breakdown the information is there, and they can find it themselves, but having the lines, scores, or period breakdown makes it harder to find the most important information: the final score. I'll remove them for now. -- Jeff3000 14:44, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I also found entering that data overly complex, but with this new template it would be easy to create three variables for each team, like goals1period1, goals1period2 and goals1period3 and then format them nicely. I still think the Olympics version is more informal than the current version. Even though both include the same data, it's just much more accessible in the Olympics version. --ZeroOne 21:16, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
