I started writing for wikipedia over ten years ago, although I've been lurking and reading for longer. I'm a pretty low-visibility/activity user, having created just a small number of articles, and made less than five hundred edits. I do think that since I find this a useful resource, I should give something back to the community by contributing my knowledge where I feel I have some expertise or interest. Professionally, I'm involved with information technology in the areas of open source, computer programming, enterprise software and web applications using java and jee and information security, particularly pen-testing. I have a personal interest in these topics too, as well as in economics, finance, psychology, cognitive science, risk, statistics, gambling, heroin, philosophy, mathematics, language, reading and a whole bunch of other stuff...

Contributions[edit]

One of my main gripes and therefore cleanups is typos and ,misspelings as well as missing accidentally in articles, as well as missing references and citations or grammatical errors, and I often make one word or one character edits. I believe if everyone fixed these tiny typos then we would have a much higher quality wikipedia. I've also started flagging diagrams that ought to be SVG vector graphics, and I just need to learn how to use Inkscape or similar to do them myself.

I would like to help support WikiProject Java somehow - it aims to better organize information in articles related to the Java programming language and its platform.

I'm learning a lot about the Wikipedia process right now, in particular non-free image use rationales and notability.

Fixing Minor Planet Categories[edit]

I am trying to fix an issue with old pages still showing up in the category index for minor planet names. The lists of names are all in blocks of 500 for minor planets numbered under 10,000, so the pages for e.g. 5001-6000 that simply include the two pages for 5001-5500 and 5501-6000 are redundant and can be deleted. Additionally, for some reason the 3001-3500 block is split into groups of 100, which I had copied to the 3001-3500 page instead of the include directives, and then deleted the content from the 3001-3100 etc.pages to prevent duplication and confusion.

Meanings_of_minor_planet_names is the correct category index, but viewing Category:Lists_of_meanings_of_minor_planet_names gave some unnecessary duplication. This Meanings of minor planet names: 3001–3500 now contains the data from pages holding groups of 100 names, to conform to the rest of the pages under 10k that are arranged in similarly sized blocks.

The following pages are the source of that content, and can now be deleted:

These pages simply included two blocks of 500 and can also be deleted:

Information Security[edit]

i think some things like SQL injection should really be in the computer security category. i'm going to work on some more computer security articles on things that aren't there, maybe like the following:
