Name[edit]

The 1st name should be "Georges", the French spelling. Hypertext pointers to "George de Mestral" should be corrected too, but I don't know how to do that.

There was an obit on de Mestral in the NY Times. His wife was quoted as saying that he also invented an asparagus peeler, "a silly thing" she said, but quite successful commercially.

I checked on the Velcro website [1], and it says "George". Hence the present article title and text. If you can prove that the Velcro people are wrong, I will be happy to change it back. --Heron 13:29, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes normally Georges (with George being the feminine form, as George Sand). HOWEVER the gravestone in Commugny [2] and the road named after him [3] both are without the "s". Perhaps he anglisised his name when his business became international?

As ever, castle is not a good translation of château . . . here is that of St. Saphorin [4]

All the web entries describe Nyon as being near Lausanne. Well yes, but Geneva is actually the nearest city, though in a different canton.

Velcro development timeline[edit]

These do not seem to be consistent:

He worked on inventing Velcro hook and loop fasteners for ten years starting in 1948.

De Mestral first conceptualized Velcro after returning from a hunting trip with his dog in the Alps in 1941. He submitted his idea for a patent in Switzerland in 1951 and the patent was granted in 1955.
