Helium III[edit]

This article refers to helium-3 evaporative cooling. The link goes to the isotope helium-3. If I am not mistaken, however, it is helium(III), a unique PHASE of helium, as opposed to helium-3, an ISOTOPE of helium, that is used in these exotic cooling applications. There is certainly Helium (II), (III) etc, but I wonder if the reason they use Helium-3 is because it doesn't form Bose Einstein condensates, and thus can be cooled much further than He 4? (IANAP). Perhaps you can find some references. njh 03:59, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

that doesn't sound right either, because this work was early to mid 20th century, but noone succeded in making a bose-einsten condensate until the mid 1990's. i'll continue to search for references. Dr U 12:58, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
