We Are the World vs. USA for Africa[edit]

Most of the information you are all debating on this discussion page relates to the "We Are the World" recording and session. The page about USA for Africa should be about the organization, its members, its philosophy, and its contributions to help the people of Africa. I see nothing here about the amount of money raised, how the money was allocated, etc. I seem to recall that a great deal of the food purchased from the "We Are the World" profits was actually stolen and/or squandered due to political uprisings and issues with transportation, but none of that is here as it should be. If you all want to write lyrics, debate which members sang or contributed to the song "We Are the World," etc., you should go to that page to do so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.126.229.138 (talk) 23:04, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Which Randy Jackson is it?[edit]

I just added wikilinks for the performers. Is it Randy from the Jackson 5, or the bassplayer from Journey? I first assumed it was from the Jacksons, but I see that Steve Perry (also from Journey) was also present, so I'm assuming it was Randy Jackson from Journey. That's where it points for now, anyways. --Geddeth 12:20, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Gallacher?[edit]

Among the artists listed is Paul Gallacher. But that goes to someone who clearly isn't him, and I cannot find anyone associated with this project by this name, including on the USA For Africa web site. Allmusic.com has an entry for a Paul Gallagher, but that doesn't look like him either. Can anyone (especially whoever added this name) check/verify? Danke. Quincy Jones[edit]

Watching the video on YouTube, it looks like Quincy Jones is conducting the ensemble. Shouldn't he be mentioned in this article? __meco (talk) 14:43, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Prince did not sing (need refs)[edit]

I have seen and heard that Prince was supposed to appear in the USA for Africa video, but did not because of some bodyguards. Can anyone write this up and add a source? StevePrutz (talk) 06:13, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, Snoop Dogg, and Kanye West[edit]

I am not familiar with the wikipedia discussion process, sorry if there are guidelines I am not following. My discussion relates to the inclusion of Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, Snoop Dogg, and Kanye West. Clearly these individuals (all 90s and 2000s artists) were not on the original 1985 recording. Could someone shed light to why they are included? Is this an error? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.223.181.37 (talk) 02:29, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the Good article criteria, this article is not ready for GAN. It does not have a clear lead section as its current lead section contains information not found in other parts of the article, making it far from satisfying Good article criterion 1b. As well, the We Are the World article covers USA for Africa in more detail than this article does. I have not read the entirety of that article, though a good place to start looking for new content are in its humanitarian aid section. If no material is found which would be considered unsuitable to be mentioned in that article, it may be a good idea to merge this article with We Are the World, though that is out of the scope of the Good Article criteria. Given the lack of major topics in that article which are mentioned in this one (particularly regarding the organization's humanitarian activities), I do not think it is close to addressing all main aspects of the topic (criterion 3a). If you would like this article to meet the Good article criteria, please expand the article so it covers all main aspects of the topic and a summary lead can be created.

There are also some sourcing issues:

  • History, cited in the part about Hands Across America, is not a reliable source. (2b)
  • The We Are the World album, Performers, and Legacy sections are mostly or completely uncited. (2c)

I have not checked the article for compliance with the other Good Article criteria as I am quick failing this article. Username6892 01:12, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
