Added sections on correspondences between Middle Chinese and on'yomi[edit]

Have added some large sections providing information I believe belongs in this article. Most importantly, the regular correspondences between Middle Chinese rimes and their on'yomi counterparts. As there are very many MC rimes, this results in some pretty big tables. Hope they are organized so as to be understandable. These tables are derived from info in wiktionary, using https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Character_List_for_Karlgren's_GSR as an index. Assuming these are considered helpful, in the future I can highlight the modern on'yomi in each example with colors indicating either "joyo", "in use, but not joyo" and "not used in existing SJ words". I would like to link each example to wiktionary, but don't think I can do it without the unsightly "wikt:" appearing before each character.

The previous section "types of on'yomi" summarizes info in other articles, along with some info from Frellesvig. The section "Shapes of borrowed Sino-Japanese roots" is mainly a (collapsed) table showing the number of joyo kanji with each on'yomi, to give a sense of both: a) what "syllables" are allowed in SJ vocabulary, and b) which "syllables" are particularly common or rare.

I have combined the final three pre-existing sections as sub-sections under "Phonetic correspondences between Modern Chinese and on'yomi". I personally do not find that much of this info is what I'm looking for in this article, as it deals mainly with changes from Middle Chinese to Mandarin, which is best sought out in other articles. Regardless, some of the info is now redundant with preceding sections, and could be cleaned up. J11merrill (talk) 02:01, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

figured out the linking to wiktionary, added highlighting for joyo readings. To change the format on joyo readings, edit Template:Joyoex J11merrill (talk) 15:15, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
